Structural Integrity Associates, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Consultant to join our Pressure Systems Engineering team in State College, PA. Participate in a dynamic team in the engineering analysis, condition assessment, and life prediction of pressure vessels, piping, and auxiliary equipment used in upstream, and downstream petroleum refining, petrochemical, and chemical industries. The position requires the individual to develop the skills to manage and coordinate the technical and administrative aspects of the work. They are expected to participate in internal and external training and development programs actively.

Technical:
  • Perform evaluations related to design, life assessment, and root cause failure analysis of pressure vessels, piping, and other equipment.
  • Perform thermal heat transfer and structural stress analysis of pressure vessels, piping systems, rotating equipment, and other plant structures using classic and finite element analysis methods. Knowledge in fluid mechanics is preferred.
  • Perform simple pressure vessel calculations using commercial software such as PV-Elite and/or Compress.
  • Perform calculations for fatigue, corrosion, crack initiation and growth mechanisms and fracture mechanics concepts employed for serviceability assessment of damaged or flawed components.
  • Utilize experience with materials, welding, and nondestructive examination techniques.
  • Assist with field inspections of plant equipment.
  • Mentor and train entry-level engineers in stress analysis and life assessment techniques
  • Mentor and train entry-level engineers in the application of various codes and standards, including ASME & API
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of written technical reports and presentations.
  • Assist in fast-paced engineering assessments that are project-critical
Business
  • Perform all work in accordance with SIA's Commercial Quality Procedures and with an acute awareness of client requests.

  • Develop and expand business opportunities with existing Structural Integrity Associates, Inc. clients and develop new clients.
  • Develop proposals for identified opportunities
  • Learn and implement all applicable standard SIA policies and procedures
Project Management
  • Support project managers in the execution of large-scale projects
  • Develop the skills to manage small-scale projects independently
  • Ensure quality and enhance job skills by seeking peer review and appraisal
  • Be financially responsible and adhere to company guidelines with respect to expenses, purchases, and project execution
Education and Experience:
  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline with 5-10 years or more industry-related experience
  • ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Design Experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks CAD software, Abaqus FE software, and general fracture mechanics concepts. Piping stress analyses experience using CAESAR II is a plus
  • Computer Programming experience is a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, as well as a working knowledge of computer software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Professional Engineering license in one or more states is strongly preferred.
