Basic QualificationsBachelors degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:Candidates must be able to obtain a TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.Responsibilities for this PositionGeneral Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an immediate opening for aSenior Telecom Engineerto join our team. The position provides an opportunity to develop the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nations fundamental defense services. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to design, develop and manage a variety of equipment and systems solutions for GDMS and its clients. The employee will also enjoy a flexible work environment where contributions are recognized and rewarded.Key Responsibilities:The Senior Telecom Engineer will design, install, configure, test, and maintain carrier grade telecommunications systems and products based on optical, TDM and Data network technologies in a multivendor network test environment. Additionally the position will interact with device, hardware and software design teams to assist in overall development of telecom systems which includes: specifying, selecting and qualifying sub-systems or modules, developing and benchmarking system performance models, developing and implementing test procedures and/or evaluating and selecting appropriate test instrumentation.Additional Responsibilities:Exercise creative thinking and ideation to advance our business performanceDeliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers changing business needsSupport and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the GDMS culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and proceduresFollow industry and department trends and developments to ensure GDMSs services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry and Tier 1 Carrier best practicesPreferred Qualifications:The ideal candidate should have experience in some or all of the following areas:1.Carrier Network architecture design5-7 years direct carrier experience designing network services, architectures, or operating Tier 1 Carrier networksHas provisioned, operated, or designed networks including a combination of some or all of the following:MSPPs, TDM ADMs, MPLS LSRs, Carrier Ethernet Switches, and/or IP routersHas hands-on experience operating and provisioning commercial vendor equipment, e.g., Alcatel-Lucent, Ciena, Nortel, Cisco, Siemens, Huawei, etc.Familiar with SONET/SDH, POS (PPP/HDLC), EOS (GFP), OTN, o-CH at rates from 10 G to 100G and beyondFamiliar with coherent modulation and transmission techniquesFamiliar with SONET/SDH protection and recovery mechanisms (i.e. 1+1 MSP, BLSR, MS-SPRING, SNCP, etc.)Understands Ethernet/IP and BGB/RIP/OSPF routing protocolsFamiliar with TMN concept, and requirements complianceFamiliar with NMSFamiliar with service level agreement compliance, performance monitoring metrics, and associated enforcement toolsFamiliar with network security toolsFamiliar with various VOIP (e.g. Asterisk), POTS/SS7, and Digital Video applications2.Physical layer transport system design (e.g. DWDM, metro, long haul)Familiar with Operation and Maintenance of DWDM (repeaterless, metro, long haul) transport systemsUnderstands relevant system design issues (e.g. x-talk, nonlinear effects, system budgets, OSNR evolution, use of FEC)Familiar with at least one commercial system equip. vendor product (e.g. Alcatel-Lucent, Nortel, Ciena, Fujistsu, Huawei, etc.)Familiar with transport layer protection and recovery mechanisms such as 1+1 and 1:N optical layer protection3.Development activitiesAble to summarize complex system architectures for executive and technicalAble to write/outline component, or subsystem, requirements to enable system functionsAble to interact with vendorsAble to lead small or large team development efforts for advanced prototyping efforts.Able to work with inter-disciplinary teams (SW, hard, systems)Able to communicate well (exceptional verbal and writing skills)Company OverviewGeneral Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS)engineers a diverse portfolio of high technology solutions, products and services that enable customers to successfully execute missions across all domains of operation.
