Job Title: Lab Aide

Job Description

The Lab Aide is responsible for the accessioning of genotyping samples, ensuring all work is performed safely and in adherence to safety protocols. The role requires timely and quality completion of tasks, both independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in automated technology for genotyping accessioning and the ability to recognize and escalate issues are essential. The Lab Aide must be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of maintaining consistent productivity.
Responsibilities
  • Accession genotyping samples and perform specimen processing and sample preparation.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Ensure timely and quality completion of work, taking ownership and responsibility.
  • Work independently and within teams to achieve lab goals.
  • Become proficient in automated technology required for genotyping accessioning.
  • Recognize and escalate issues encountered in the lab.
  • Maintain detailed and organized records, ensuring accurate task completion.
  • Overcome obstacles to complete tasks or assignments.
  • Maintain consistent productivity when transitioning between different areas.
  • Develop strong interdepartmental communication skills and interact effectively across groups.
  • Communicate work-in-progress (WIP) to the next shift.
  • Report equipment issues to engineering via the ticketing system.
  • Perform PRG, DDP plate, and Embark plate sample send-back processes.
  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, preparation, receipt, and data entry into DPS or LIMS.
  • Carry out maintenance schedules to ensure proper laboratory equipment operation.
  • Maintain lab supplies and consumables, keeping the lab stocked with appropriate reagents and materials.
  • Track and report all lab incidents.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Document batch records accurately and report any deviations.
  • Prioritize activities and assignments, adjusting priorities as needed.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with internal and external personnel.
  • Train internal customers and ensure their needs and expectations are met.

Work Environment

The Lab Aide position is based in a leading biotech company in San Diego, providing valuable lab experience for those entering the industry. The work schedule is from Sunday to Thursday, 6am to 2:30pm. The contract runs from December through March. The work environment includes a well-equipped lab facility where adherence to safety protocols is paramount. Effective communication with team members and engineering is essential, and proper documentation is required for all processes.
