About the Role The VP of Engineering for the Location operating group is one of four engineering VP roles at the company and the primary role focused on the core user experience of our mobile app. Together with the VP of Product for Location and the VP of Engineering for Devices, you will be responsible for creating experiences that grow our 66M+ monthly active user base toward our objective of 150M MAU.

Deliver an Exceptional User Experience

This leader consistently champions our customers and looks for creative ways engineering can contribute to deliver magical experiences. While we don’t expect you to be a product designer, we want you to help the team develop strong cross-functional ties to Product, Design, and Marketing so we can collectively find the most creative and efficient ways to bring ideas to life. Success here means engineering feels responsible not just for delivering features, but having a role in defining and creating exceptional user features.

Increase Innovation Speed at High Quality

You will be responsible for continuously looking for ways to increase the speed at which we deliver value to our customers. You will work closely with Product and Design leadership to come up with the quickest and simplest ways to deliver value while also ensuring we keep the highest bar for quality. We make location look easy but under the hood it is a hard problem to ensure location accuracy, timeliness and low battery drain. You will balance longer term foundational improvements with rapid experimentation and new delightful touches on the map and throughout the apps. You will drive the adoption of new technologies and architectures to enable new location experiences at a massive scale.

Technical Skills

You have proven experience in developing full-stack solutions encompassing cloud, iOS, and Android tech stacks infused with data analytics.

You have a proven track record of developing and delivering winning outcomes based on rapid experimentations backed by hypothesis testing and data analysis.

You have deep knowledge of the consumer products ecosystem, tools, technologies and frameworks for highly efficient development.

You have experience in creating long-term development efficiency through driving the use of tools, automation, and sustainable solutions.

You have experience successfully shaping the product roadmap while driving tradeoffs between product, engineering, and business objectives.

You can drive adoption of new technologies and changes in architecture while continuously shipping incremental changes and maintaining high quality.

You are comfortable getting into technical details to coach the team or help them work through challenges.

You are a champion of quality at every step and you can make sure all the pieces fit together.

Bonus Points

You have experience optimizing performance and power consumption in mobile apps.

You have worked on other applications that run in the background even when the phone owner is not looking at the app.

You have worked at other companies with a consumer mobile focus.

You have been a senior engineering leader as part of a company that has scaled from ~500 to 1,000+ people.

You are an active user of our product, so you intuitively understand the value we are providing to our customers.

You have experience with large-scale Kubernetes/EKS deployments.

You previously worked and developed with large-scale Event-Driven Architecture.

You have expertise with location based systems and data management.

You have experience applying Machine Learning and AI to large data sets in consumer applications.

You have experience with apps that connect and communicate with Bluetooth devices such as Tiles and Jiobits.

Other Details Although we are headquartered in SF, we have embraced the remote-first world, so we are open to hiring the right person anywhere in the U.S. or Canada. We know the value of face time, so some travel is required.

We offer competitive benefits and compensation, and are publicly listed on the ASX (Australian Stock Exchange). We chose this non-traditional funding route instead of doing a late-stage private round because you get the liquidity of a public company with the upside of a private one.
