Overview:

The Buyer III is responsible for the planning and purchasing of raw material supporting production for an assembly operation. This position will manage select suppliers to ensure on time delivery at competitive pricing while managing inventory levels to prevent shortages and maximize turns. The Buyer Planner will report directly to the Plant Manager.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze messages from an MRP system and place orders in a timely manner.
• Forecast and plan assigned commodities at the SKU level.
• Manage suppliers to reduce costs, improve quality, control inventories, and ensure timely flow of
• material.
• Monitor and report key performance metrics, including Purchase Price Variance, inventories, shortages, and supplier on-time delivery.
• Manage inventories to ensure continuous production while maximizing turns.
• Develop thorough working knowledge of assigned commodities and associated supplier base.
• Develop a thorough working knowledge of required MRP / ERP systems.
• Identify alternate suppliers and assist with qualification and integration.
• Bring ideas to management and be able to implement necessary process improvements.
• Develop mutually beneficial, respectful, and effective relationships with peers to ensure seamless coordination between departments, maximize synergy, and maintain a shared vision, strategy, and focus.

Qualifications:

• B.S. degree and/or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 5-7 years experience purchasing raw materials in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience buying mechanical components preferable.
• Working knowledge of MRP systems preferably JD Edwards.
• In-depth understanding of MRP concepts including bills of material.
• Must be hands on with strong problem-solving acumen.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to details.
• Required to have an extensive working knowledge of PC functions and Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, works independently, displays initiative and solves problems with proficiency.
