Day Shift: Normally scheduled hours to be determined according to the needs of the department.

The Sewing Department Production Manager oversees all aspects of production within the sewing department. They are responsible for ensuring that production targets are met, safety and quality standards are maintained, and processes are optimized for efficiency. The role involves supervising and coordinating the activities of sewing machine operators, mechanics and associates, implementing production schedules, monitoring inventory levels, and liaising with other departments to ensure smooth operations.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Manage and execute the shift schedule, including workstation assignments/rotations, employee training, employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignment, back-up for absent employees, and shift rotations.

Responsible for managing and coordinating the activities of hourly supervisors, leads, operators and associates, to ensure efficient production processes. Teach and instruct on process, provide feedback for performance evaluations and corrective actions. Initiate and foster a spirit of cooperation and engagement within the department and between shifts.

Responsible for the leadership and development of their team members, utilizing best practices, excellent communications skills, and performance management techniques.

Develop and implement production schedules to meet customer demand and delivery deadlines. Maintain workflow by monitoring the steps of the manufacturing process and adjusting work assignments as needed to ensure operational targets are met.

Maintain inventory levels of materials and supplies required for production.

Troubleshoot sewing issues and coordinate maintenance and repairs as needed.

Follow and develop reporting procedures and systems, communicate daily production expectations to staff.

Maintain and enforce safety requirements, quality standards, and behavioral expectations.

Implement cost-saving initiatives and process improvements to optimize efficiency and reduce waste.

Provide regular reports on production performance, including productivity, quality, and inventory levels, to management.

Collaborate with other departments such as design/samples, quality control, other value streams and shipping to ensure seamless workflow and timely delivery of products.

Lead, drive, and sustain a continuous improvement mindset, using Lean and Six Sigma tools to help improve processes and eliminate waste.

Experience & Skills Required:

At least 4 years’ proven experience in a supervisory or managerial role within a sewing production environment

Strong knowledge of sewing techniques, equipment, and materials

Excellent organizational and leadership skills

Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment

Proven experience in process improvement techniques and application

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, intermediate excel skills, and production management software.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Spanish fluency a plus

Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing setting

Results based Leadership style skill set with strong impact and influencing skills.

Tenacity and energy in leading change

Ability to communicate effectively to direct and motivate team and others, maintaining a persuasive and credible presentation style at all levels of the organization.

Education:

A.S. degree or equivalent experience required.

Bachelor’s degree in textiles, industrial engineering, business, or a related field preferred.

Professional Certifications:

Training in Lean Six Sigma is a plus.
