The Buyer will maintain ongoing communication with the supplier base, providing constant updates on market and product movements.

Responsibilities for this role include (but are not limited to):

  • Coordinate and perform activities for procuring goods and services, such as raw materials, parts, and supplies, through the MRP system and directional needs.
  • Confer with vendors to obtain information on products or services, including price, availability, lead time, and delivery schedule.
  • Support line operations and collaborate with department managers, engineers, and operations staff.
  • Estimate values based on market price knowledge and determine procurement methods, such as direct purchase or bid.
  • Prepare bid specifications, receive bids, and make purchases where the financial impact is significant.
  • Address issues with defective or unacceptable goods or services with quality assurance personnel, users, vendors, and others.
  • Act as a liaison between the Supply Chain Group and other internal managers, providing purchasing training, analysis, and information.
  • Review and improve the sourcing and pricing process for inbound material flow.
  • Seek cost savings through price negotiations and sourcing decisions for raw material and component requirements.

To be considered for the role, the following education, experience and qualifications are required:

  • Bachelors degree preferred or equivalent experience
  • Superior problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with MRP, ERP systems, inventory software, Warehouse Management Systems software, order processing systems, spreadsheet software, and Microsoft Office
  • One or more years of experience in a procurement environment, preferably in primary/secondary packaging or chemicals
