For over 40 years, NeighborWorks Alaska (NWAK) has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for families and individuals by preserving homes, creating new housing opportunities, and strengthening neighborhoods. NWAK has walked thousands of Alaskans from housing vulnerability to security as we work toward our vision for strong neighborhoods through quality housing and community engagement. Each day, we directly serve 3,000 individuals in our affordable rental housing and supportive housing programs. Currently, NWAK is embarking on ambitious plans to rehabilitate our existing portfolio while developing a bold growth plan to continue to meet the need in our communities. These planned expansions will demand enhanced funding strategies and community support.
Position Description
The Development Officer will work closely with the Executive Director and Leadership Team to design and implement effective fundraising strategies focused on major donors, investment strategies, and grant seeking. Duties include leading fundraising and resource development efforts; cultivating and soliciting major gifts, corporate, and in-kind donations; overseeing gift research, tracking, and acknowledgement; grant seeking and solicitation; and leading meetings and events for development efforts.
Develops and implements short- and long-term strategic planning activities for fundraising goals and objectives, including working closely with staff to design and implement strategies for program-specific goals
Secures major gifts by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individuals, foundations, and corporations
Manages donor recognition and stewardship strategies, including through donor database management
Leads/coordinates annual fundraiser
Communicate with donors and leadership

Develops and prepares fundraising materials, including proposals, gift agreements, funder pitches, appeals, presentations, and more
Collaborates with appropriate staff for marketing (paid, earned, and social media), promotional materials, and other donor engagement needs
Coordinates with staff to identify and highlight testimonials and stories of impact
Prepares fundraising reports, budgets, and other documents as needed
Seek grants and investment strategies

Collaborates with Leadership Team to develop program-specific goals and potential grant opportunities
Identifies and develops grant seeking strategy, including private, corporate, and government
Support grant proposal development, submission, and follow-up, including funder relationship development
Responsible for major grant research/writing to address portfolio capital and programmatic operational needs

Passion for and knowledge of issues regarding affordable housing, homelessness, and community development highly preferred
Demonstrated success in workflow organization, projects, and time management.
Qualifications
7+ years in professional fundraising, philanthropy, grant writing, or related field
Demonstrated success in managing and meeting fundraising goals, including securing major gifts
Comfortable with variety of donor management systems and processes
Demonstrated ability to work successfully with and respect the confidentiality of information pertaining to wide variety of constituents (donors, board members, volunteers, colleagues)
Proven record of success in grant solicitation and management of funds
Preferred skills: Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) preferred; member of professional organizations, i.e. Association of Fundraising Professionals
Physical requirements: ability to travel independently; dependable transportation for donor meetings and other job-related activities
