The Library Associate, Evening and Weekend Supervisor leads overall library building operations and services during scheduled evening and weekend shifts. The Library Associate has sole staff supervision of library public service operations including circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, public computing, directional reference and reference referrals, customer safety, and building and collection security. This role serves as a part of the Access, Instruction & Research Services team. This is a 0.60 part-time role that works 9 months of the year from late August to early May, with the opportunity to cover occasional special occasions such as graduation and reunion. The weekly schedule during the academic year will be: Monday & Tuesday 7:30pm-1am, Friday 4pm-8pm, Saturday 9:45am-8:00pm, Sunday 4:30pm to 1am. There are no regular working hours during Fall/Spring Breaks, J-Term (mid-December to mid-January), and summer break, except to participate in possible short-term projects and strategic meetings held during those times. Responsibilities Access, Instruction, & Research Services: Provides sole staff supervision of library public service operations including circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, directional reference and reference referrals, customer safety, and building and collection security during scheduled evening and weekend hours. Serves as the first staff point of contact for faculty, students, and community members. Resolves situations and problems with individual borrowers relating to lost/overdue materials by interpreting library policy and striving for resolution that leads to an improved understanding of community stewardship for library resources. Ensures the proper and efficient handling of library materials including re-shelving and processing of returned materials. Coordinates shifting needs for the entire circulating collection. Creates timely statistical reports relating to use of library collections and services. Provides secondary supervision of approximately 20 student employees, training them in library policies, systems, equipment, and procedures; stressing accuracy and the critical importance of confidentiality of library records. Develops, mentors, and trains student manager-level employees. Shares responsibility with day and evening/weekend service desk supervisors for ensuring overall service desk staffing and daily operations. Leadership and professional development: Provides excellent customer service. Helps foster teamwork throughout the organization on campus and beyond. Helps maintain efficient workflow, procedures, and process improvements. Contributes to assessment activities throughout the organization including report writing and data compilation and analysis. Stays abreast of developments in the field and is engaged in personal professional development. Annual goals: Contributes to completion of annual library & media services goals. Sets and attains annual personal performance goals. Qualifications Associate Degree. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills, commitment to accuracy and attention to details. Demonstrated reliability and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel. Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity. Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. Academic library experience. Customer service experience. Experience in training and overseeing student workers.
