In addition, ensures optimum patient outcomes related to medication use by preventing or resolving drug-related issues and optimizing the drug therapy of patients. Integrally involved in education of pharmacists, residents and students. Provides operational leadership and support to current and strategic growth of oncology and specialty services for Boston Medical Center health system. Communicates strategies to deliver efficient, cost-effective, and quality patient care. Position: Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Manager- Department: Oncology/Specialty Programs Schedule: Full Time ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: Maximizes patient outcomes by optimizing both the operational and clinical aspects of care. Provides operational leadership and support to current and strategic growth of oncology and specialty services (including GI, Rheumatology and Infectious disease) for Boston Medical Center health system. Communicates strategies to deliver efficient, cost-effective, and quality patient care. Reports regularly to the Senior Director Specialty Pharmacy to ensure compliance with departmental quality improvement initiatives. The primary responsibilities specific to the hospital and the department of pharmacy: Clinical Programming Responsible for developing and expanding clinical pharmacy services within ambulatory specialty clinics collaborating with physician colleagues, and working with hospital and corporate leadership to obtain support for initiatives Be instrumental to creative thinking and be a leader in the initiation of new clinical programs in specialty arena Develops and manages specialized projects using an interdisciplinary team of providers in the development of health system-innovations to improve patient care and reduce cost Contributes and participates in department and hospital committees Demonstrates leadership role in the teaching programs of the department of pharmacy services related to ambulatory care Facilitates outcomes research in hematology/oncology and specialty setting Identifies cost savings and revenue generating ideas through innovative methods within Hem/Onc and Specialty areas Oversee or delegate management of PGY2 Hematology Oncology or other specialty residency program Operational Management Provide oversight of the day to day operational needs of the specialty pharmacy services Oversees scheduling to maximize utilization of personnel and responds to deficiencies in patient care coverage to improve overall performance and patient outcomes, while meeting established service and program outcomes Optimizes billing services for clinical pharmacy services provided by ambulatory pharmacists in Hematology Oncology and Specialty area Oversees high cost drug utilization for ambulatory areas utilizing Hematology/Oncology and other high cost specialty drugs Participate as a department representative in hospital committees Oversee IT build, revenue integrity build and some revenue cycle management for high cost/specialty drugs Regular reconciliation of purchasing and invoicing for hematology oncology/specialty pharmacy Help with manufacturer and payor contracting Performance and Quality Improvement Ensures and identifies quality assurance and improvement of all processes within purview Ensures physician and other health care provider satisfaction with pharmacy services provided in clinic Assists the Senior Director Specialty Pharmacy with the design, development, implementation and maintenance of new clinical quality improvement programs for the department and for the hospital's accountable care organization Responsible for creating culture of accountability and assuring associated standards are achieved and documented Demonstrates ability to identify and resolve interpersonal or professional conflicts when dealing with members of the organization Responsible for the creation and maintenance of a healthy work environment. Participates and presents/publishes results of research or noteworthy DUE/Quality Improvement projects at local, regional, and/or national meetings. Precepts pharmacy residents as needed Develops goals for Ambulatory/Specialty Clinic Pharmacy for each fiscal year based on the institutional scorecard and department's goals Utilizes the hospital's values as the basis for decision-making and for facilitating the hospital mission. Administrative Duties Budget and performance management: maintain individual care management budget, regularly report on clinical and financial performance measures J OB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: Work requires at a minimum a BS Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy or doctor of pharmacy. A master's degree in related field (MBA, MPH, MS in pharmacy) is preferred but not required. Completion of specialized clinical residency in Hematology Oncology or other specialty settings preferred. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED : Work requires licensure to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by the hire date. Board Certification in a specialty area is an added requirement (BCOP or BCPS). Applicant can be licensed in another state and pending reciprocation. EXPERIENCE: Post-graduate training or at least two years of pertinent work experience. Must have work experience in providing direct patient care in Hematology/Oncology/Specialty and some leadership experience. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Work requires a high level of analytical ability, organizational, and personal management skill to function as a role model and focus to ensure the concerted approach to clinical operations. Must also be able to evaluate current pharmacy services and procedures to improve them through an evaluative process. Work requires a high level of interpersonal skills to relate to hospital healthcare personnel working cooperatively and collaboratively to resolve situations and problems, as well as effectively communicating and displaying leadership within and outside of the department.
