Our Welding Center of Excellence (CoE) serves as a service organization of welding subject matter experts within Sensata, catering to both internal and external customers. As part of the Welding CoE, you will be instrumental in new product development, continuous improvement initiatives, and addressing quality issues. You will also work to remain current with welding trends and research and contribute to the creation of best practices, standards, and guidelines for welding processes at our company. Communication skills are key, as effectively collaborating with teams spread across the world is a crucial part of the role.We are seeking a skilled Welding Engineer with expertise in designing and developing welding processes. Most of the welds we do at Sensata are small-scale and can be held comfortably in your hand, so preference is given to candidates with experience with small-scale welding. The most common welding technologies employed in our manufacturing processes are laser beam welding and resistance welding for metals, however, other processes are employed, including but not limited to gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, friction stir welding, and ultrasonic welding (plastic and metal).General ResponsibilitiesSubject matter expert and process engineer leader on A-List new product development global project teamsLead cross-functional teamsAdvises on the development of synergies across multiple product linesRepresents the organization as the principal customer contact and generally performs in a program/project leadership roleInteracts with management and senior customer personnel on matters requiring coordination across organizational guidelinesProactively identifies risk mitigation opportunities and process involvementsDefines manufacturing strategy for zero defect as well as defines the specifications for production equipment and interacts with mechanization (in-house) and equipment suppliers to ensure the equipment will meet specificationsCollaborates with departments on the status of process specifications, quality aspects, product specifications, and continuity of equipmentInfluence product roadmap through process innovationDevelop new or improved manufacturing and testing processes that are necessary to achieve the performance and cost requirements of future device applicationsLeads the successful launch of new productsLeads advanced quality planning activitiesSpecifies functional requirements, reviews designs, and debugging/qualifying new high-volume assembly/test equipment or toolingTransferring knowledge to make site personnelSupport improvement projects to reduce cycle time, defects, and manufacturing costsWork with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure processes are capable, have sufficient controls in place, can meet our delivery requirements, and meet our cost targetEvaluate Sensata's and suppliers' technical capabilities including tooling design, build experience, maintenance program, processes and process control, cell automation- if requires, quality control systems, and materials knowledge.Experience / QualificationsA university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experienceMust be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demandsStrong communication skills; oral, written and presentationStrong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve resultsStrong personal and professional ethical values and integrityHolds self-accountable to achieving goals and standardsProficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and external customers.Responsibilities:Design weld joints to meet the needs of design engineering teams. Recommend materials, pre- and post-weld processing, and geometries.Conduct experiments to develop welded joints on various products. Apply statistical analysis to confidently meet quality, performance, and financial targets.Interpret and apply industry best-practices and standards (e.g. AWS B2.1, AWS C7.1, AWS C7.4, CQI-15, etc.).Review, interpret, and create welding blueprints, drawings, specifications, and other production documentation for welding projects.Apply knowledge of metallurgy and materials to recommend appropriate welding designs and processes.Recommend and sometimes conduct inspections and testing of welded subassemblies and structures to discover flaws, ensuring the highest quality of our products. Most often you will be working with our partners in a metallography lab (which is independent of the Welding CoE).Support other welding/metals/materials-related initiatives as required by our internal customers. This includes new product development, continuous improvement initiatives, and problem-solving quality issues (both internal and external).Stay updated with new and emerging trends in small-scale welding technology and techniques, sharing insights with the broader organization.Collaborate with project managers, design/process/mechanization engineering teams, manufacturing teams, and other departments to ensure efficient production and quality.Develop and curate welding best practices, standards, and guidelines throughout the company.Perform cost and project estimates and prepare welding procedure specifications for small-scale welding projects.Work with Environmental, Safety, and Health teams to ensure that we are meeting local and federal health and safety regulations with the welding processes/equipment we develop.Preferred Qualifications:Strong problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
