Senior Business Analyst

The Senior Business Analyst will be responsible for helping to manage impact of changes in software and business processes on our business systems, as well as creating and maintaining BI reports, alerts and charts or visualizations for dashboards with IBM Cognos Analytics software.This individual will work with their supervisor, subject matter experts and members of different levels of management in various functional areas in our corporate headquarters.More than half of the work for this position will involve verifying the accuracy of BI output against existing reports, resolving discrepancies, as well as ensuring that all business requirements are met and all report assumptions are valid for all historical and potential future data.Essential FunctionsWork closely with business users in different departments to understand requirements and analyze data for desired insights as well as application and report functionalityFollow established procedures for developing BI reports and alerts off one or more of our databases, including accounting, timekeeping, cost planning, and HR/Payroll.Apply defined best practices for using Cognos Report Studio to develop reports and Event Studio agents for workflow emails and alertsProperly join queries that pull data from different data sourcesCreative problem-solving with the ability to identify and effectively use customer support and various online resources for troubleshooting applications, database integrations, plus BI reports and alertsDemonstrate high ethical standards with proper handling of sensitive and confidential dataProvide Ad Hoc data queries for department managers, program managers and VPsAssist with troubleshooting functional and data-level security issuesInquisitive nature with demonstrated interest in exploring regular improvements and new capabilities in our business systems and business intelligence softwareOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsBachelor or higher degree with 7+ years of experience supporting a major ERP system and Cognos Analytics software (specifically with Report Studio and Event Studio)Strong understanding of key business concepts and terminology for functional areas like accounting, human resources and contracts.Strong analytic and logical reasoning skills, demonstrated ability to "think outside of the box" and provide careful attention to detailAccounting and financial reporting knowledgeKnowledge of Microsoft ExcelUnderstanding of Structured Query Language (SQL) and database objects (Oracle or SQL Server)Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment as well as with members of senior managementDemonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple simultaneous prioritiesDesirable QualificationsExperience with using UKG Pro for Human Capital Management and Deltek Costpoint ERP for other functional areas (including understanding of their respective database structures)Experience with IBM Cognos Framework Manager for the development of framework modelsExperience creating Data Modules and Dashboards in Cognos AnalyticsAbility to mentor junior BI analystsSalary:Salaries are determined based on several factors including external market data, internal equity, and the candidate's related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.Benefits MELE Offers Our TeamHybrid remote/office work environment - must work at MELE's headquarters office in Rockville, MD three days a week (two days working from home)Employer-paid employee Medical, Dental and Vision CareLow-Cost Family Health Care offered.11 Paid Federal HolidaysPaid time off (PTO)401(k) with Employer MatchAbout MELE Associates, Inc.With over 250 employees and offices in Rockville, MD, Washington, DC, and Albuquerque, NM, MELE is a veteran-owned (VOSB), minority-owned small business empowering its customers with innovative solutions for more than three decades.
