Emergency Medical Services Academy – EMT Class Hourly Wage- $16.00 an hour Summary: The EMT Certification Course is a six-to-eight-week program that involves completing a state-approved education program in Emergency Medical Technology, passing a cognitive and practical exam, and obtaining a license to practice in the State of New York. Empress is currently recruiting individuals interested in joining our next "Earn to Learn" Academy program. Empress EMS is the largest provider of EMS in the Hudson Valley Region, providing both emergency and non-emergency transport of patients. Upon successfully passing the New York State Exam, the EMT will work on the frontlines of Empress EMS providing emergency treatment to the sick and injured. Empress EMS offers career paths for all EMTs within the organization, with the ability to grow into different areas of EMS, including logistics, community paramedic division, quality improvement, special operations division, and the emergency communications center. EMTs can also take advantage of the Empress EMS paramedic scholarship program to advance their careers to become a paramedic. Minimum Qualifications: A valid Driver’s License - Driving record must meet company requirements. Satisfactorily completes all aspects of the pre-employment process administered by and/or for Empress Ambulance Service, LLC, inclusive of drug screening, background check, and physical agility test (CPAT). Must be at least 18 years of age. High School Diploma or Equivalent. Primarily, the Academy Student will be in a classroom and/or SIM Lab setting and will occasionally attend ride-alongs with a licensed EMT and/or Paramedic. The position involves working outdoors and indoors with occasional exposure to hazardous conditions and blood/body fluids, requiring respirator use, fumes/odors, extended hours, and temperature changes. The role frequently involves working with others, face-to-face contact, and exposure to noise, mechanical equipment, and electrical equipment. Shift work is required, and duties are frequently performed in a mobile environment and confined areas. Physical Requirements: An EMT/Student is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The EMT/Student must be able to sit; climb or balance; step, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The EMT/Student must frequently lift and/or carry a maximum of 150 pounds unassisted and up to 300 pounds as part of a two-person crew. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
