Leads largest and most critical projects to design and implement HVAC mechanical improvements to data centers. Prepare scope of work and requests for proposals, meet, request, analyze and negotiate all bid request for upgrade and enhancements, repairs to equipment and systems. Interfaces with IT leadership and outside engineering professionals. This individual will lead the design and implementation of mechanical plant and HVAC data center technologies and future datacenter HVAC related initiatives. Mentors and trains Mechanical Techs and Data Center Operations team members and helps increase their effectiveness and skillset on HVAC and mechanical plant related systems.RESPONSIBILITIESData Center Management:Lead peers other Mechanical Plant Techs by providing direction on operation and maintenance.Trains and develops lower-level employees.Directly Responsible for the entire mechanical plant and HVAC infrastructureActs as Subject Matter Expert and highest-level support for the operation and maintenance of the Data Center HVAC systems.Leads mechanical plant and HVAC projects assigned to Data Center TeamDetermines strategies and leads projects for opportunities for improvement and architecture changes. Leads largest projects related to data center design, construction, and certifications.Leads largest projects related to data center mechanical systems construction and design to achieve Uptime Institute Data Center Tier levels.Develops and implements strategies to ensure proper power, cooling and other capacity needs.Develops and oversees programs for inspections, maintenance, and repairs of the mechanical plant and HVAC systems within the data center facility.Develops and implement programs to monitor and analyze environmental parameters, such as temperature, humidity, and airflow, using specialized tools and equipment.As required must be available on a 24-hour basis for emergency support. Only when required and considered abnormal to general operations.Collaborate with other teams, including electrical and facilities, to schedule and coordinate maintenance activities to minimize impact on data center operations.Establishes specifications by conferring with users, analyzing workflow, access, information, and security requirements.Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.Documentation:Develops training curriculum for employees to help raise the technical level of workers.Documents specific duties, activities, problems solved, and issues resolved.Document all maintenance and repair activities accurately and maintain records of equipment performance and service history.Miscellaneous:Attends meetings and serves on committees, as requested.Regular attendance as required.Performs additional duties and assignments as requested.QualificationsEducation/Certification:High School graduate required.Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or completion of formal trade or technical training, or equivalent practical experience (minimum 4 years of related work experience). Experience:Minimum 10 years of experience leading a mechanical plant focused on chill water and evaporative cooling.Experience in developing methods and procedures on operating and maintaining a mechanical plant that supports HVAC.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSCertification: (One of the following preferred but not required)Licensed HVAC TechnicianLicensed Mechanical Plant Technician (Boilers, Plumber, Pipe Fitter)Knowledge of:Datacenter HVAC, CRAC, CRAH cooling technologies.Leading a team of technical employeesMechanical Plant equipment expertise:ChillersCooling TowerPumpsFiltersWater TreatmentBMS/Automation Controls setup and diagnosisEquipment commissioning and setup.VFD controls for water pumpsAlign Pumps and MotorsPID adjustment for motor and pumpsExperience with hand toolsGeneral knowledge of datacenter design and constructionEmerging Technology Trends Datacenter Best Practice and Industry Standard MethodologySkills/Abilities:Evaluate critical systems, prioritize workflow, and determine solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Interpret and apply laws, regulations and policies. Competent computer skills, including proficiency in relevant software applications like Office and Sunbird products.Ability to add and remove refrigerant and adhere to environmental and safety regulations.Brazing and soldering experience in sensitive environments.Read and understand technical manuals. Work for extended time at keyboard/terminal Maintain effective working relationships with supervisor and coworkers.
