DescriptionREPORTS TO : Head of SchoolSCHEDULE : 12-month facultyFUNCTION : Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is responsible for coordinating the Academys efforts to engage in best practice with diversity, equity, social justice and inclusion from the hiring process, work in the classroom, and throughout community and residential life. The Director is the lead advisor of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racist work, providing support and counsel across the entire institution, all school constituents, and all areas of school life. The Director will provide support and resources for faculty and will bring programming to the community to support the mission of the school.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team and the Board of Trustees DEI Committee in providing a strategic vision regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion. Oversee the board Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee to set a direction for the committee workgroup; include student representatives as often as possible.Collaborate with the Director of Human Resources in evolving hiring practices and roads maps to standardize the hiring process to provide greater equity.Collaborate with the Academic Curriculum Committee and other committees as well as individual academic departments to ensure the academic experience for our students provides a range of diverse experiences and perspectives; our curriculum in all areas should intentionally review all areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.Develop, implement, and assess the DEI departments strategic plan, learning outcomes, and annual goals to include student success, student belonging, recruitment, persistence, and retention.Develop methods of collecting assessment data and best practices to improve the campus climate and educate students, faculty, staff, and other community members around issues of social justice and inclusion.Develop strategies for addressing inequities and advancing advocacy and initiatives around social justice and equity principles.Engage speakers, organize, design, organize and coordinate programs and workshops for students, faculty, and staff in the domain of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Oversee the committee responsible for programming for the MLK Jr. weekend, providing learning opportunities for faculty and staff as well as students and families. Consult with the Coordinator of Student Activities and the Director of Residential life regarding opportunities to bring programming to campus as well as weekend activities which promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.Provide structure, support, and development to two DEI associates. Oversee affinity groups and supervise club leaders of said groups.Work with the Head of School, Associate Head of School, Director of HR, Director of Counseling, and Dean of Students to investigate and address reported incidents of bias and discrimination. Support and guide students and employees seeking assistance in handling bias incidents.Serve as a leader on campus for multicultural education, including leading campus initiatives such as the cultural and heritage month celebrations, monthly programming, and educational initiatives supporting leadership development with multicultural and underrepresented student organizations.Serve as an advocate for students from underrepresented and underserved groups; lead community conversations about bias and community responses to bias as it relates to student concerns.Other responsibilities include:AdvisingContribute 2 points to the co-curricular program.Weekend team responsibilities (on a 5-week rotation)Residential/dormitory duties (if you are a residential faculty/staff member, school provided housing may be available with this position)Must have a valid drivers license with the ability to obtain an CT A endorsement for purposes of transporting students.RequirementsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelors degree required; Advanced degree preferred.8-10 years of experience in the field of Diversity, Equity, and InclusionStrong work ethic and high level of integrityExperience in counseling is strongly preferred.Teaching experience, administrative experience, and familiarity with independent school culture desiredExperience designing and administering community-building, multicultural, diversity and inclusion programs and curricula in schools across various grade levels.SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Demonstrates discretion, confidentiality and composure in all situations involving students, families, and colleagues.Proven record of success in working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, parents, and community leadersDemonstrates commitment to respect a broad range of views and to building mutual understanding, trust, and shared commitment over time.Demonstrates knowledge of current research, trends and practice in community, diversity, inclusion, and multicultural affairsAbility to develop working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, and the wider community.Strong skills in oral and written communication, deep listening, long-range planning, and program implementationAbility to confidently manage complex personal and institutional dynamics related to diversity.#J-18808-Ljbffr
