The Grants Manager oversees all grant activities of the department, including management of existing grants and developing new funding opportunities. This includes researching, developing, and writing and editing content for federal, state, and foundation grant proposal submissions in support of various programs within Jefferson Center for Mental Health. This position is responsible for all aspects of the grants process, from researching and prospecting for new grant opportunities to end-of-grant reporting responsibilities.

Essential Duties:

  • Manages the competitive grant application process for federal, state and local funders from start to finish, researches and cultivates grant sources; research and writes grant applications, stewards completed applications; helps to implement and close out all grants
  • Participates in collaborative grant proposals/projects with partner organizations
  • Serves as the primary point of contact with grant funders
  • Ensures timely submission of grant proposals and reports
  • Prepares proposals, reports, letters of inquiry and any other required follow-up
  • Researches grant-making organizations and analyzes them to identify likely funding sources for specific projects and programs; interacts with senior level internal and external professionals
  • Works with appropriate program and finance staff to identify and collect information required for proposals and reports
  • Manages progress made on goals and objectives and work with appropriate program staff to develop thorough and timely grant reports
  • Researches information on a variety of mental health issues to be incorporated into grant proposals
  • Develops and maintains directory of current research on mental health and related topics/issues and shares with other department staff involved in grant writing
  • Supervises the two grant writers
  • Support Director of Philanthropy is meeting capital campaign goals

  • Maintain effective interpersonal relations with funding partners, consumers, peers, subordinates, upper management, visitors and the general public
  • Demonstrates a willingness and ability to work nights and weekends as necessary
  • Must have reliable transportation to attend meetings and events
  • Must be able to lift without assistance up to 25 lbs.

Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:
  • Significant experience with the "full-cycle" grantee process, from researching grant opportunities to end-of-grant reporting responsibilities
  • Significant administrative project management experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including strong editing and proofing abilities; a strong capacity to become conversant and subsequently write about multiple complex programs
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills; ability to establish priorities and manage workflow efficiently; must be versatile and willing to work under pressure of constant deadlines on varied and diverse projects/subjects
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative information
  • Very strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve stated goals
  • Experience working with program staff to monitor outcomes and manage the grant reporting process
  • Strong interpersonal skills as it relates to customer service and team-building
  • Strong software knowledge/capability (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, databases, etc.) as well as a high proficiency in conducting research via the Internet and handling electronic submissions of grants reports/applications
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Minimum 4 years experience in preparation of federal, state and/or private foundation grant proposals with proven track record of success; experience in proposal writing for mental health, health, human services, and/or youth development programs preferred
Salary Grade 15-$66,900 to $85,100*

Additional Salary Information*:
  • All salaries at Jefferson Center are calculated based on years of total relevant experience.*
  • The salary range above is based on 1.0 FTE (full time equivalent) or 40 hours per week. Less than 40 hours/week will be prorated and adjusted to the appropriate FTE.*
*This position qualifies for a limited time grant funded bonus of $1000 paid on the one month anniversary*

Additional Bonus Information*:
  • Based on full time (40 hours/week). Prorate if less than 40 hours/week*
  • Must work a minimum of 20 hours/week to be eligible for bonus*
  • Current Jefferson Center employees not eligible for sign on bonus*
