The VHH Technical Application Scientist will connect customers to VHH services and products offered under the Abcore brand. In this position, you will use your technical background to provide complex and routine guidance on VHH selection phage display and troubleshooting. You will provide information on services, pricing, and billing, and will take orders via phone, email, and other channels. You will lead internal discussions surrounding market positioning, customer outreach, and new capability development. You will work on both internal and client-driven projects. You will work closely with site leadership to become an expert on site capabilities and customer needs.
The Opportunity
- Act as the primary point of contact for customer inquiries about VHH projects with minimal technical oversight, with duties including advising customers on technical aspects such as immunization strategy, panning selection strategy, and screening methods, as well as making scientifically founded advisements on risk assessment in discovery projects.
- Work with BD team to manage customer relationships and conduct outreach to identify new customers.
- Compiles and delivers customer-facing and internal technical reports
- Data analysis of molecular biology data including sequencing analysis, screening data, titer dot assays, and serum titer ELISA results.
- Figure generation and presentation of data such as sequence alignments, clonotype analysis, structure-function assessment, and liability identification.
- Ability to act in a protein engineering role, with the focus in adapting VHH domains to function in novel technologies such as diagnostic or bioprocess workflows.
- Ability to act in a field application scientist role specifically for phage display, visiting customer lab sites and giving technical demonstrations in phage display for VHH discovery.
- Coordinates project schedules between farm and lab staff, creating longitudinal project planning toward the success of campaigns in the VHH discovery platform through Gantt charts, calendar reports, and additional project management work.
- Corresponds with customers by email and virtual meeting, with the potential for on-site correspondence, in both technical and project management roles.
Additional Functions:
- On-site lab activities to support gaps in panning, screening, and sequencing workflows.
- Additional design work such as project proposals which may use advanced techniques such as NGS analysis and structural biochemistry frameworks.
- Administrative duties such as scheduling of projects, maintenance of project tracking databases or spreadsheets, and other aspects of project management toward immunization campaigns.
Who You Are & What You Bring
Education and Experience:
- Masters or PhD degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or similar scope with 3+ years of post-baccalaureate experience in immunized phage libraries and in phage display of antibodies and antibody fragments
- Hands-on expertise in phage display affinity selections toward the development of therapeutic molecules is required.
- Additional education in antibody and protein engineering is advantageous.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems in collaboration with customers.
- Capable of building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, and effectively communicate complex scientific information to them.
- Identify and act on priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Ability to keep accurate records and effectively convey information to customers and site leadership.
- Aptitude to quickly learn new concepts, techniques, and tasks specific to VHH Antibody discovery
- Adeptness to work effectively both as part of a team as well as independently in a customer-facing role.
