The YMCA of Central Ohio is seeking a visionary and strategic leader to serve as the Director of Operational Risk. This key role involves providing leadership and counsel to promote and protect the organization's health, safety, and security. The Director will partner with Association Operational Leaders to enhance existing processes, ensure compliance with industry standards, and lead risk-related committees and initiatives. Responsibilities include developing strategies to identify and close operational risk gaps, maintaining compliance with CDC, CARF, HUD, ODH, and local health department guidelines, and creating risk-related resources. The role also involves collaborating with leadership to develop and evaluate Emergency Action Plans (EAP), conducting safety audits, and leading incident response protocols.   1. Provides vision, leadership and counsel in all areas of Operational Risk to promote and protect the Y as an organization.
  2. Partners with Association Operational Leaders to grow the efficiency of existing organizational processes and procedures to ensure the health, safety and security of staff, volunteers, members and participants, and association assets are preserved.
  3. Leads functions of Operational Risk initiatives, training, practices and systems, while partnering with Association Leadership to enhance and sustain the organization's internal capacity.
  4. Develops and implements strategies to identify and close Operational Risk related gaps and strategically leads Operational Risk related committees and groups, as needed.
  5. Collaboratively leads the Association's Risk Resource Team with Operational Leaders and various departments to ensure risk policies and practices are in alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  6. Researches, reports and utilizes the current industry standards, best practices and developments, legal requirements, and the strategic plan to maintain an Operational Risk strategy that ensures the protection of YMCA staff, assets, reputation, programs and facilities.
  7. Maintains an active knowledge of the current CDC, CARF, HUD, ODH, local level health department, and insurance guidelines to ensure internal compliance and provide recommendations for incident prevention and response procedures.
  8. Creates and updates YMCA of Central Ohio risk related resources in support of risk governance to ensure protection and health / safety of Y operations.
  9. Initiates and leads (from start to finish) response protocol to various incidents and provides direction to staff, leadership and program area based on data provided.
  10. Assists the YMCA's People and Culture team with necessary employee related items related to risk management.
  11. Collaborates with YMCA leadership to develop, execute, and evaluate Emergency Action Plans (EAP) and monitoring standards; performs routine safety walk-throughs and audits at the housing and shelter facilities, evaluates performance and provides follow up training and documentation on needed improvements.
  12. Ensures health and safety measures are in place at shelter and housing locations and that staff are sufficiently trained on how to implement them in their daily routines.
  13. Provides leadership and serves as a primary responder for any major incident, while providing follow up, debrief and claims assistance.
  14. Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth. Participates in required abuse risk management training. Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements. Adheres to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in risk management or a related field preferred, and two years experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Passionate belief in the Y's cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people and finding ways to help and support our neighbors.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and viewpoints from all social and economic segments of the organization and community. A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism is expected from our staff.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
  • Discretion and a strong ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate initiative, effectively prioritize, and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Exceptional oral, public speaking and written communication skills.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.
  • Must complete HIPAA Privacy and Security Training and work in accordance with HIPAA requirements, if not already trained.
  • YMCA Team Leader certification; if not certified, must obtain certification within 12 months
