Responsibilities:
The

Underwriting Director, Production

is responsible for managing the activities of their underwriting team to meet company objectives and enhance the profitability of both new and renewal business. This critical leadership role will additionally assist with leading department-level projects, implementing processes and procedures, and being a strong technical resource. The position will require an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Intrepid underwriting goals, guidelines, verticals, processes, and data as well as understanding how these items interact with other departments.
Key functions include but are not limited to:
Provides strategic direction and tactical oversight for renewal and new business production.
Immerses into our targeted verticals to understand risk and provide optimal outcomes.
Understands market conditions and anticipates changes.
Analyzes data/metrics/KPIs to improve underwriting decisions and achieve desired outcomes.
With the underwriting management team, effectively recruits, hires, manages, challenges and develops a team of underwriters.
Establishes and maintains underwriting letters of authority.
Handles referrals per underwriting letters of authority.
Works with the underwriting leadership team to ensure guidelines, workflows and processes, allow the team to consistently support company strategies and meet business goals.
Effectively collaborates with the Actuarial, CSA, Claims, and Sales management teams.
Performs quality control underwriting file reviews.
Supports underwriting projects and initiatives.
Maintains a working knowledge of the companys various reinsurance treaties.
Works with facultative reinsurance markets as needed.
Consistently seeks to improve workflow and process efficiencies.
Provides training and support as a technical underwriting resource to the underwriting team and company.
Interacts continuously with all levels of employees of various departments.
Exhibits professional behavior at all times while representing the company.

Qualifications:
Bachelors degree with a minimum of 15 years of commercial underwriting experience; including a minimum of 5 years management experience.
Proven leader that can effectively manage a team.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain a profitable book of business.
Multi-line experience with all commercial lines of business including Property, General Liability, Automobile, Umbrella, and Workers Compensation.
Strong background using data analysis to guide underwriting philosophy and decision making.
Extensive experience underwriting different classes of business in various parts of the country.
Build sustainable relationships of trust through open and interactive communication.
Completion of, or working toward, CPCU, AU, or similar designations highly desired.
Curios by nature, challenge the status quo, and detail oriented.
Ability to organize, multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
Strategic thinker.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Self-starting, self-motivating.
Minimal travel, less than 10%
