**QUALIFICATIONS:**

* Must have a sincere interest in foodservice & nutrition and enjoy working with the senior care living population and other healthcare patients.

* At least one year experience in management is desired; however, it is not required.

* Must possess and use excellent customer service and communication skills.

* Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English

* Must be in good mental and physical condition.

* Must possess computer skills.

* Must possess leadership qualities and be able to supervise and secure the cooperation of the FNS partners.

* Must work cooperatively and productively with FNS partners as well as non-FNS partners following established policies of the center.

* Must have a thorough knowledge of and be able to apply food service management, safety/sanitation, food production, and nutrition principles.

* Must be able to make frequent adaptations of standard procedures and to delegate work assignments to provide the most efficient operation of the department.

* Must desire to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, must be at work on time and during scheduled shift.

* Must have or obtain an approved Sanitation Course certification, as required by NHC standards and per state regulations.

* Must be licensed and/or certified as required by specific state guidelines or hold an associates or higher degree in food service management from an accredited institution of higher learning, if not a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or if a full-time RDN is not employed within the facility.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Are determined by the center and may include, but are not limited to the following:**

* If there is not a Director of FNS, the FNS Manager is responsible for the total operation of the FNS Department.

* Plans, directs, and supervises FNS functions and partners, except for clinical partners such as RDNs and Nutrition and Dietetics Technician(s), Registered (NDTRs).

* Responsible for the preparation and service of meals for patients and customers, considering any special diet requirements and individual food preferences. Responsible for obtaining menu approval if not a RDN.

* Responsible for food and supply purchases and for maintaining expense records. Responsible for meeting budget guidelines for food, supply, labor, and total budget and participates in budget planning.

* Responsible for equipment purchases, maintaining equipment records, notification to the maintenance department of equipment not operating properly, and in preparation of preventive maintenance sheets.

* Interviews, hires, orients, trains, counsels, disciplines, and when appropriate, terminates FNS partners.

* Schedules work hours and assignments, and reviews and checks work assignments.

* Evaluates work performance and completes periodic evaluations of FNS partners. Maintains or assists in maintenance of the personnel records of the FNS partners.

* Assists in development and adherence to policies and procedures, menus, job descriptions, cleaning schedules, and other food service management tools. Develops, revises, and adapts work techniques and methods for more efficient operation of the department and in training FNS partners.

* May assist the dietitian in the gathering and organizing of nutritional information. These tasks may include, but are not limited to, the following:

+ Evaluates adequacy of nutrient intake

+ Identify nutrition problems and needs

+ Implement diet plans and physicians diet orders, using appropriate modifications

+ Utilize standard nutritional care procedures

+ May document nutritional data in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and/or the electronic tray ticket/selective menu system

+ Participates in Patient Care Plan conferences

+ Counsel patients on basic diet restrictions

+ Conduct routine patient visits to gather pertinent information which includes usual body weight/weight change history, food and beverage preferences, intolerances, allergies, etc. for completion of assessment and screening tools

* Works with the Director of FNS, NDTR, RDN, Regional Dietitian, and/or Administrator and follows recommendations made.

* Has a thorough understanding and practice of all regulations (local, state, and federal) which affect FNS including, but not limited to, patient care, sanitation, labor, fire, safety, and disaster and ensures continued adherence to these regulations.

* Works with other departments in planning and coordinating activities/functions which involve FNS and other departments in the center.

* Assists FNS personnel with job tasks as needed.

* Addresses new diet orders and diet changes when transmitted from the EHR into the electronic tray ticket/selective menu system, and keeps patient food preferences and needs updated.

* Member of the Quality Assurance Performance Indicators (QAPI) Committee. Conducts and/or supervises FNS QAPI by monitoring, documenting, and reporting on these studies at QAPI meetings/reviews.

* Participates in department head meetings.

* Maintains and revises, as necessary, a standardized recipe file in which the recipes are adjusted to the size of the center and the current menu cycle.

* Checks meal trays for accuracy of diets, preferences, and quality to ensure meals are prepared and served correctly.

* Conducts routine visitation with patients in their rooms and in dining rooms, at varying meal times, to ensure satisfaction with meals.

* Inspects FNS department regularly to ensure that it is safe, secure, and sanitary.

* As an educator, plans, presents, and/or participates with in-service education programs for the FNS department.

* Presents a professional appearance at all times. Adheres to the NHC dress code.

* Performs other tasks as necessary and appropriate as directed by supervisor.
