OVERVIEW

The Senior Product Engineer is an equal partner on the product development team bringing their expertise to assist in design strategies and development of our world-class consumer products. The Senior Product Engineer interfaces with Product Marketing, Industrial Design, Quality and liaises with production suppliers to help determine the development path that will result in a robust product. They also guide and mentor other engineers on their approach to engineering new products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • the engineering development of products through detailed understanding of performance feasibility to meet requirements
  • and coach other engineers in the development strategies for new products.
  • closely with the Industrial Design to ensure concepts are both functional and can be manufactured
  • ideas quickly and effectively using a combination of sketching, CAD layouts, 3D models and working prototypes to evaluate potential solutions
  • involvement in development engineering, input specifications, concept feasibility evaluations, prototyping, and testing
  • evaluate and improve designs for meeting all key performance criteria in cost and performance in an efficient manner
  • new ideas, products and/or features that improve customer satisfaction, reduce costs and keep our product line at the forefront of our industry
  • and/or lead in concept brainstorming
  • in creating product prototypes for internal evaluation as well as for customer and consumer testing/feedback
  • or partner in problem solving issues applying best practices for root cause analysis
  • Project Managers in planning development activities to meet project deadlines
  • with global suppliers on shared development activities

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Experience engineering complex mechanisms and assemblies that meet system-level performance criteria derived from regulatory and compliance requirements

Experience moving from concept to volume production at international locations of production

Individual contributor that understands a range of engineering disciplines including Critical Thinking for Problem Solving or Design for Six Sigma

Has experience applying development tools such as Thought Maps (Strategy), Product Maps (Boundary Diagrams), DFMEA and Root Cause Analysis

Strong communication skills and is comfortable working in cross functional teams

  • to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously
  • in GD&T
  • analyzing and interpreting patents

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate will have a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering

Minimum 10 years experience in a mechanical design engineering environment, preferably with consumer durable goods

Experience in design for metal forming, die casting, and plastic injection molded parts is a plus

Experience in juvenile products is a plus strollers, highchairs, playards, etc.
