Job Function and Responsibilities

The Director, Corporate Partnerships contributes to the success of the Chicago Zoological Society by designing and directing efforts to help secure philanthropic support working closely with the Society President/CEO, Senior Vice President Development ("SVPD"), trustees, Governing Member Ambassadors, Development department, other senior staff, and high-level volunteers to achieve and exceed goals to provide for a sustainable future.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions. *Manage a portfolio of approximately 150 corporate prospects/donors with responsibility for moving them from qualification through solicitation. *With Senior Vice President Development ("SVPD") and Senior Director, Institutional Giving and Events: (a.) Develop and execute an integrated plan to secure and increase financial and philanthropic support from corporations to maximize potential support, as well as further efforts to build major philanthropic support for the Society, including corporate grants, sponsorships, corporate memberships, and additional corporate contributions. This includes identification, cultivation and implementation solicitation strategies for corporations.

Coordinate efforts with other Development, program, and Zoo staff to maximize gift potential for annual giving and ongoing campaigns, while also supporting Zoo and department leadership involved in development efforts with reports, staffing documents, etc. *Oversees the implementation of sponsorship-related partnerships to achieve both long-term and short-term goals and objectives, including those related to attendance, revenues, and strategic brand positioning of the Chicago Zoological Society and Brookfield Zoo such as securing sponsorships for a full spectrum of institutional needs ranging from attendance-driving special events to mission-based programs and services. *Work closely with Senior Director of Development Operations and appropriate development colleagues to utilize and analyze data from Raiser's Edge (e.g. screening profiles) to maximize campaign-giving potential while supporting the Society's corporate program. *Per your portfolio, work with volunteer, development and organizational leadership to implement appropriate cultivation and communication strategies, action plans, special events, and commemorative giving opportunities as appropriate. *Manage the Zoo's Corporate Partners program and help oversee strategy for securing advertisements for the Gateways membership magazine. Work with the program teams (e.g. Education, Animal Care, etc.) and Marketing teams to secure restricted grants and event and marketing sponsorships for the institution. *Develop and implement actions to improve workplace culture with an emphasis on driving results and fostering inclusion.

Actively lead employee engagement, talent development, recruitment, and retention initiatives.

Leverage organizational resources (training and development-CZS University, performance management systems, employee surveys, regular communications vehicles, staff meetings, etc.) to drive continuous improvement and positive outcomes. Perform other related department responsibilities to successfully achieve the Society's development goals and objectives as necessary.

Position Requirements and Specifications

POSITION MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in arts, sciences, or other relevant field or eight years of equivalent, relevant development/fundraising training and/or experience required.

High school diploma or (GED) equivalent. Five years relevant development experience, ideally with annual campaigns and soliciting and securing major gifts from private and/or public sources. Outstanding communications skills, including strong/effective listening skills required.

Must be articulate and well spoken, capable of effectively representing the organization.

Requires adept and persuasive communication skills, including the ability to write persuasive, personal, and grammatically correct letters and proposals. Outstanding interpersonal skills required. Solid planning and organizational skills. Effective problem-solving skills.

Sound, logical decision-making skills required. Must be a flexible and cooperative team player.

Ability to juggle emergent issues, multiple projects, high-level officials, and meet critical deadlines. Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage sensitive issues. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of privileged information is essential. Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management software packages required. Highly professional appearance and demeanor essential. English fluency at a full professional proficiency required. Cultural competency; experience and/or ability to work and interact effectively with a diverse, multicultural audience. Valid driver's license required at time of hire.

Illinois residents must possess a valid Illinois driver's license or obtain one within 90 days of hire.

A valid out-of-state driver's license is required for out-of-state residents.

DESIRABLE/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred. Prior supervisory experience highly preferred. Experience working with Boards of Trustees is a plus. Experience with Raiser's Edge a plus. Multilingual ability, Spanish fluency a plus.

Because the Society is an organization that runs at a very fast pace with multiple, rapidly changing priorities, the incumbent must be flexible and adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

Incumbent is expected to be present and visible at events sponsored by the Society for its employees, trustees, and other audiences, including evenings, weekends, and early mornings as needed.

Thus, the incumbent must be able to make a significant commitment to the organization.

Some travel may be required to meet established work objectives.
