The Commodity Buyer role supports store operations through the purchasing and management of select goods and products that are sold within specific CNRG locations. They will also help the specified CNRG Brand(s) manage it's in-store inventory by facilitating reporting and communication to maintain optimal inventory levels. The Commodity Buyer will be a key link between the CNRG Merchant Militia, Category Manager, and Store Operations to develop strategies to maximize financial results and efficiency. Additionally, the Commodity Buyer will participate in strategic business initiatives, and contribute to the company's overall growth.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

* Partner with the Operations team to purchase lumber and select Building Material products, to include drywall, roofing, insulation & concrete, that maximize the Brand(s) sales and profit results, as well as supporting the brand(s) identity.

* Utilize internal reporting, industry market reports, and communication with key vendor partners to determine level of weekly purchases needed to support budgeted sales and margins, while maintaining inventory levels that optimize inventory turns given current market conditions and sales trends.

* Create weekly commodity retail pricing reporting to develop competitive and market relevant retail pricing strategies that maximize sales and profit margins.

* Partner with approved CNRG vendors and Lumbermens Merchandising Cooperation to negotiate product costs, project quotes, lumber contracts, address service level issues, and coordinate product knowledge support.

* Aid in identifying new products and vendors, as well as, opportunities for product assortment reviews, and help prepare any reporting needed to support the review process.

* Partner with the Brand(s) to identify marketing opportunities to maximize sales and margins during key promotional periods.

* Participate in any strategic business planning or budgeting process, to include data analyzation and report creation.

* Attend select trade shows as required that would help identify new products, vendors and market trends to support sales and profit goals.

* Help manage and control the flow and content of resource center requests submitted to the Merchant Militia for your Brand(s) to maintain preferred product assortment and approved vendor matrix.

Qualifications

College degree or equivalent experience in the retail hardware industry required. Commodity lumber and building materials purchasing experience is required. Must possess strong Computer skills including proficiency in MS Office Suite, and Google Suite. Must have strong written and oral communication skills. Must be customer service-oriented and team-oriented. Must have knowledge of retail procurement and be able to evaluate and interpret statistical and numerical data effectively. Must be able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays.
