Role Summary

Urban Outfitters is seeking a dynamic and strategic Associate Director, PR and Corporate Comms specialized in developing and executing strategic communication and public relations plans to bolster the company's brand, enhance its reputation, and shaping and amplifying UO's brand identity.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned communications professional with a passion for storytelling, a keen eye for detail, and a proven track record of driving impactful brand narratives. This role will be overseeing PR campaigns, managing media relations, crafting messaging, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure alignment with Urban Outfitters' objectives. We are looking for an individual who is forward-thinking, possessing a media first mindset, and capable of innovating with autonomy.

They must be attuned to the ever-evolving trends in consumer behavior and possess profound insights into the cultural landscape that influences creative trends, aligning seamlessly with the UO brand ethos. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, strategic thinking abilities, and a proven track record in PR and corporate communications within the retail or fashion industry.

Role Responsibilities

  • PR + Brand Communications Strategy: Oversee and execute on the comprehensive brand communication strategies that align with Urban Outfitter's overall brand vision, ensuring consistent messaging across all touchpoints.
  • Media Relations: Oversee media relations activities, including building strong relationships with key media contacts, pitching brand and product stories, managing media inquiries to secure positive media coverage.
  • Crisis Management: Monitor media coverage and industry trends to identify opportunities and risks and develop proactive responses as needed. Lead crisis communication efforts, including developing response plans, coordinating with stakeholders, and managing reputational risks.
  • Storytelling: Craft compelling and authentic brand stories that resonate with Urban Outfitter's audiences across industry, trade, retail, and consumer media.
  • Corporate Communications: Lead the development of clear and effective corporate communication materials, including press releases, executive messaging, and internal communications to enhance storytelling and brand alignment.
  • Executive Communications: Have a passion to elevate the leaders of the brand to tell Urban Outfitter's story from their unique POV and increase industry authority.
  • Social Cause Communications: Partner closely with internal team to identify purpose driven communication moments throughout the year to amplify brand commitments and partnerships across philanthropic and charitable work.
  • Metrics and Analysis: Track and analyze the effectiveness of communication campaigns, using data-driven insights to refine strategies and optimize results.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams, including Marketing, Merchandising, and Stores, to ensure consistent brand messaging and alignment across all customer touchpoints.
  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership and mentorship to the PR team, fostering a culture of collaboration, creativity, and continuous improvement.
  • Media Insights: Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging trends in PR, corporate communications, and digital media, and integrate innovative approaches into communication strategies.
Role Qualifications
  • 8-10 years of experience in brand communications, corporate communications, or related roles, preferably in the retail or lifestyle industry.
  • Strong media relations skills, with a network of media contacts and experience securing coverage in relevant outlets.
  • Experience in a consumer facing brand (including agency experience, retail, or related industry)
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful brand communication strategies that drive engagement, awareness, and loyalty.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to craft compelling narratives.
  • Experience in crisis communication and issues management, with the ability to remain composed under pressure.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to translate brand values and concepts into impactful campaigns.
  • Proficiency in data analysis to measure campaign effectiveness and inform future strategies.
  • Collaborative and adaptable mindset, with the ability to work across cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of current industry trends, digital platforms, and emerging communication technologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, analytics, or a related creative field
