UCT is looking for a talented Design Engineer III to join us in Fremont, CA

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work independently on development of original design concepts and/or adaptations.
  • Expert in the use of parametric modeling software (e.g. SolidWorks) to produce 3D models, BOM, fab specs, FEA, and engineering prints that conform to ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Work closely with adjacent functional groups to resolve technical problems and deliver successful design solutions.
  • Utilize mechanical engineering principles to analyze, evaluate, recommend, design, and re-design individual components, assemblies, sub-assemblies, etc.
  • DFM: plastics, metals, additive, etc. to be implemented within harsh working environments.
  • Familiar with rapid prototyping techniques and material selection to accelerate testing and minimize cost.
  • Tolerance stack-up analysis for all critical interfaces, fitments, etc.
  • Familiar with HVAC and piping design for manufacturing process equipment.
  • Configure, select, incorporate various COTS components (e.g. fastening hardware, O-rings, piping, valves, pneumatic air cylinders, servo motors, stepper motors, object detection sensors, etc) to aid in the automation of various process steps.
  • Coordinate with vendors/suppliers to properly manage project throughout fabrication phase.
  • Mentor and direct other design engineers as needed.
  • Familiar with implementing and sustaining change management orders and requests.
  • Conduct FMEA on critical designs (assemblies and components).
  • Resolve problems concerning existing designs to improve safety and/or performance.
  • Sustaining engineering to provide continuous improvement of standards/processes and their respective documentation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to act as technical liaison cross-functionally throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to deliver creative, original designs via parametric modeling software - SolidWorks preferred.
  • Hands-on problem solving.
  • Prefer someone with experience programming Rockwell Automation PLCs for use with custom-designed electromechanical systems.
  • Coordinate with a diverse group of engineers and technicians located at various facilities across the globe to effectively manage design projects of various size and complexity.
  • Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely to both internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge and exposure to ANSI, ASME, ISO, and SEMI standards.
  • Project management: ability to manage multiple, competing projects simultaneously against demanding time constraints.
Educational/Certification Requirement:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or closely related field from an accredited university.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Work Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum of five (5) years' engineering experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience with parametric modeling software(s) - SolidWorks preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical system design and design for manufacturability.
  • Candidate should be confident working toward deadlines without direct supervision.
  • Good communication skills - both written and verbal.

Work Environment:

This job is performed both in a professional office environment and on the production floor. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and manufacturing areas can occasionally be moderate or loud.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit; climb stairs, maintain balance; employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust optical focus.

Travel Requirements:

Limited off-site and/or overnight travel away from primary work location may be required.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $81,300 and $130,100 /year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including variable pay and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO (Paid Time Off) and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these additional compensation and benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
