Hiring Speech Language Pathologist Assistants

A Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) works under the supervision of a credentialed Speech/Language Pathologist/Therapist. Here are some common responsibilities for an SLPA in a school setting:

Instruction and Support:

+ Assist in providing instruction specific to speech and language communication for students identified as having special needs.

+ Monitor the use of augmentative communication devices and systems.

+ Provide student support through follow-up instructional and behavior modification activities.

Medical/Physical Assistance:

+ Assist with medical or physical needs of assigned students.

Behavior Modification Activities:

+ Assist in conducting training and behavior modification activities for children experiencing special learning and/or behavior needs.

Communication Skills Development:

+ Work with students to develop pre-language and language skills, oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, and use of assistive technology devices for communication.

+ Site: Bouquet Canyon Elementary (must be available to work on-site)

+ Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7.5 hours per day, with a half hour unpaid lunch

+ Population: Preschool

+ Caseload: TBD

+ Credential: Required
