Job Description

+ Perform engineering and analysis for the design of tunnels and shafts in soft ground, mixed conditions, and rock (initial support and final lining).

+ Use various tunnel construction methods such as drill and blast, sequential excavation method (SEM), or TBM.

+ Perform 3-D soil-structure interaction analysis, geotechnical analysis, and dynamic analysis using advanced finite element software.

+ Prepare detailed calculations, design drawings, and specifications.

+ Coordinate with Technical Leads, Project Directors, Project Managers, design team, BIM/CADD team, and more.

+ Apply rock and soil mechanics skills to evaluate various failure modes and develop ground support schemes.

+ Prepare project documentation such as Technical Memos, Geotechnical Data, Interpretive, or Baseline Reports, or Basis of Design reports.

+ Characterize and classify ground conditions for different tunneling methods based on geotechnical information.

+ Communicate design work through the preparation of drawing sketches indicating support types, geometry, construction sequencing, and instrumentation.

+ Use tunnel analysis and design software such as PLAXIS 2D and 3D, FLAC/FLAC3D, and other foundation design software.

Qualifications

+ Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering

+ 3+ years of experience in Geotechnical Anaylsis and Design

+ 3+ years of experience with a mix of underground structure projects

+ Knowledge of soil and rock mechanics

+ Experience with Tunneling

Additional Qualifications for Sr. Geotechnical Engineer:

+ Tunnel Design experience

+ Experience with various tunneling methods such as drill and blast, Sequential Excavation Method (SEM), and Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM)

+ Proficiency with tunnel analysis and design software (PLAXIS 2D and 3D, FLAC/FLAC3D, and other foundation design software)

Work Site

This is a hybrid position requiring some days on-site in New York, New York and some days remote.
