Electrical Technical Designer II

An Electrical Designer will perform electrical design services on multi-discipline building design projects of small to moderate scope for commercial and government facilities, as well as single discipline mechanical engineering projects of small to moderate scope. General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Preparation, technical accuracy and coordination of programming documents, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents as directedPerforming various design services as an Electrical Designer, including Conceptual Studies, Program Requirements, Design Analyses, Calculations, System selection and layout for building design with minimal direction from supervising mechanical staff.Providing oversight and coordination of projects, and working with assigned design managers and project managers, to meet client's budget, contract fees, goals, objectives, and deadlinesCoordinating and communicating all aspects of electrical design within multi-disciplinary teams as requested by the Design Manager or Project Engineer.Performing duties associated with the bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments and opening and tabulating bids as directedPerforming duties associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings as directedComplying with the company's quality control practices and proceduresWorking with, responding to, and taking direction from the department director, project managers, and senior engineering staff.Other duties as directedProject responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Perform Senior Electrical Engineer or Electrical Engineer tasks as directedResponsible for document organization and clarityResponsible for discipline drawing coordinationAssisting with the preparation of fee proposals for design services as directedDrafting of marked-up plans, partial plans, sections, detailsCompleting sections and details produced to a schematic-level of completion by the EngineerCreate schematic-level plans and details for approval by the Electrical EngineerDeveloping an accurate, three-dimensional model of the mechanical systems with the necessary level of detail using the required Building Information Modeling (BIM) software package, when BIM is a project requirementDevelop design options for resolution of system conflictsAssist with building systems calculations and LEED templatesParticipate in building system selectionsParticipate in building code analysis processParticipate in development of discipline specificationsCoordinate work product with other disciplinesAdhere to project budget and scheduleEducation, Technology, and ExperienceHave earned a high school diploma, or equivalent, and completed coursework in AutoCAD, Microstation, and/or BIM software packages from a technical or vocational school; orAn Associate's Degree in a field of study related to drafting and design; orA Certificate in a field of study related to drafting and design; orA four-year undergraduate degree in a field of study related to drafting and designThe following may be given additional consideration:Applicable Autodesk certificationsActive membership in drafting or modeling-related organizations (local or web-based)Certificate of Management for Building Information Modeling (CM-BIM)Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices and pursuing LEED AP accreditationRegistered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certificationAdditional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an ever increasing knowledge base to enhance the design and documentation processAn Electrical Technical Designer II should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, and information management.Working familiarity with design and production software to a point of being able to utilize the software in the development of project documents and interact with other project team members in their use of the software is highly desirable.An Electrical Technical Designer II should typically have 3-10 years of significant A/E consulting experience as a CAD or BIM Technician, Designer or Senior Designer working under the supervision and guidance of a licensed Electrical Engineer (PE).Experience in federal, state, municipal, healthcare, commercial, higher education or similar projects plus experience in Design/Build and CM at Risk project delivery methods is desirable.Previous experience with wireless communications projects will be given additional consideration for Electrical Engineers assigned to our Wireless Communications division.Additional Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to prepare effective and concise documentsPossess technical precision and creative design skillsAbility to make effective presentations to a variety of groupsHave a can-do attitude with a desire to provide outstanding professional servicesBe dedicated to his or her professional development as well as the success of colleagues and the firm as a whole Physical Requirements Work is sedentary and often performed in an office setting.
