The IT Project Manager andAgile Coach will play a crucial role in leading IT projects that involve users from various business departments, including Science, enhancing the project management practices within the IT department. This position is a hybrid role that combines hands-on project leadership with mentorship and coaching responsibilities. The individual will bring expertise in agile methodologies, traditional project management, and ideally, design thinking, to ensure that the right projects are initiated and that they are executed efficiently and effectively. In addition, this role emphasizes creating a culture of project ownership and accountability, empowering team members across the IT department to lead and contribute to projects proactively. Key Responsibilities Project Leadership and Execution Establish project operations to support both small and large projects, integrating task management, scheduling, resource allocation, and communication platforms to streamline the management process. Manage a project portfolio, tracking the value and cost of each project to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and financial efficiency. Employ design thinking to understand user needs and find solutions, focusing on solving the right problems effectively. Lead the delivery of projects using a combination of agile and traditional project management techniques, ensuring they are executed efficiently and effectively. Conduct daily stand-up meetings with project owners to maintain project momentum and address challenges promptly. Facilitate other agile ceremonies, such as sprint planning, retrospectives, and reviews, to enhance team collaboration and continuous improvement. Foster a culture of project ownership, encouraging team members to take initiative and responsibility for project tasks and deliverables. Coaching and Mentoring Mentor and coach IT personnel, including system administrators and other technical staff, to manage smaller projects or contribute significantly to larger projects. Develop and lead a training program that includes project management methodologies, design thinking, and agile practices, tailored to empower IT staff at all levels. Enhance stakeholder management skills among IT staff, teaching effective communication and engagement strategies to ensure alignment and support across various departments. Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, where team members are motivated to take ownership of project success. Collaboration and Team Empowerment Create an environment that encourages collaboration, communication, and cross-functional teamwork, allowing team members to leverage their strengths in project roles. Utilize collaboration tools to facilitate effective communication and coordination among team members, especially important in cross-functional and larger projects involving multiple departments. Empower team members, regardless of their formal role, to lead project initiatives, fostering a sense of responsibility and engagement. Required Skills and Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field. Professional certifications in Project Management (PMP, PRINCE2), Agile (PMI-ACP, Scrum Master) are highly desirable. Extensive experience in managing complex IT projects with a proven ability to integrate design thinking and agile methodologies. Strong leadership and coaching skills, with significant experience in stakeholder management, adept at engaging and aligning diverse groups to achieve project objectives. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of fostering a collaborative and accountable team environment. Characteristics A leader who is passionate about empowering team members and fostering a culture of project ownership and accountability. Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a focus on delivering results and meeting project deadlines. Effective communicator who excels in mentoring and developing talent within the IT department, fostering engagement and responsibility in project work. Skilled in managing relationships with key stakeholders from diverse groups, including administrative departments (such as HR, Legal, Finance, Facilities), and the Science department, ensuring alignment and collaboration across functions.
