The Associate Director for New Student Programs is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive first-year program which includes both curricular and co-curricular initiatives that underpin the first-year experience. The Associate Director oversees all aspects of the Orientation Leader team, Emerging Leaders Program, supports the First Year Experience (FYE) Pathway and parent newsletter. This position plays a key role in New Student Orientation logistics and supports Parent and Family programs throughout the admission process and beyond.
1. Implements a comprehensive, university-wide First Year Experience program to build community, engage students and families, and increase retention. Work collaboratively to identify campus partners and implement educational and co-curricular programs for all new freshmen, transfer and first-gen students.

•Research and recommend best practices that support first year students, promote retention, and increase engagement, including targeted programs withing the first six to eight weeks of each semester.

•Collaborate with campus partners to create and implement FYE programs for both resident and commuter students, including but not limited to Housing and Residence Life, ORI 100, Student Life, CASA, Career Development, Campus Ministry, and Enrollment Services.

•Develop and implement a strategic structure using CampusESP to create vibrant parent and family engagement throughout the academic year.

•Plan and implement Parent and Family Programs

•Coordinate logistics, meet with Conference and Events, A/V, and DoIT for both in-person and virtual events.

•Utilize CampusESP as consistent touchpoint and newsletter for Parent and Family Engagement

•Tracks and develops evaluations, attendance, and assessment data.

•Create marketing for new students, families, faculty/staff, update department websites and manage social media.

2. Coordinate New Student Orientation in August and January in partnership with Admissions, Academic Affairs, and key university departments.

•Oversee the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of Orientation Team leaders.

•Works with Director to plan and implement orientation activities for incoming first year students.

•Partner with Housing and Residence Life to coordinate a smooth handoff between first year move-in and orientation activities.

•Partner with Admissions, Student Services, Financial Aid and CASA to develop sessions and opportunities for course registration and transactional aspects of the transition.

•Submit marketing requests for websites, graphic design, digital and print communications.

•Submit room reservations, setup, catering, public safety, and facilities needs.

•Assist with maintaining annual budget accounts, reconciling expenses and managing requisitions.

Serve on planning committee for recruitment activities such as Admitted Students Day, Open Houses, and Parent and Family programs.

3. Supervise Graduate Assistant and/or Coordinator position with a focus on new student engagement and marketing.

•Provide leadership to develop a student engagement marketing strategy that facilitates the communication and execution of a vibrant campus life.

•Provide professional development, feedback and supervision, including annual performance evaluation.

•Train and mentor Federal Work Study team

•Develop and implement social media plan and BarryU Street Team

•Partner with departments in first gen student programming.

4. Plan, implement, and oversee the overall operation of the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP).

•Oversee the recruitment process, selection criteria, training sessions, and supervision of ELP Peer Mentors to deliver a high-quality experience for both Peer Mentor and program participants.

•Schedule guest facilitators, small group activities, ice breakers, and teambuilders

•Manage electronic registration form and social media posts.

•Partner with FYE Residence Coordinator to engage students in ELP themed housing.

•Submit marketing requests for websites, graphic design, digital and print communications.

•Prepare session materials, curriculum, PowerPoints, activity supplies, completion certificates, etc.

•Track attendance, coordinate evaluations, and plan the formal completion ceremony.

•Submit room reservations, Audio Visual, and catering requests.

5. Support divisional and departmental programs to engage students and families in recruitment and retention.

•Contribute to quarterly and annual reports, publications, and presentations.

•Provide assessment updates and support for departmental, SACS, and Strategic Plan goals.

•Assist in managing and reconciling department budgets and spending account.

•Serve on divisional and university-wide committees.

Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred. Demonstrated experience with development and implementation of New Student Orientation, First Year Experience, or Student Engagement programs may be substituted for some of the education requirements. This position is in person.
