Job Description

The Professional Practice Evaluation (PPE) Specialist is a Masters-prepared nurse responsible for FPPE/OPPE, the intake and review of reported professional practice concerns and referral of reported cases to the appropriate professional practice evaluation committee for further review and final determination/intervention decisions. This position consults with the chair of the committee for professional enhancement, the Vice President of Medical Affairs, or the clinical specialty reviewer in making referral determinations. This position assists in preparing cases for review by the committee for professional enhancement,

Responsibilities

  • Effectively assists in the coordination of the initial intake and review portion of the Professional Practice Evaluation process across Baptist Health Care, which oversees the practice of physicians and APP's credentialed by BHC in hospital and/or physician practice settings.
  • Identifies and reports patterns of provider practice risks that could potentially result in patient harm and/or compensable events to the Medical Affairs Clinical Director.
  • Speaks up when improvement actions are needed at the individual, group and/or system level.
  • Refers any identified system issues to the appropriate hospital department and to the Committee for Professional
  • Enhancement for monitoring until the issue is resolved.
  • Assists in reviewing patient records that require a Professional Practice Evaluation as triggered by either an event report or specialty-specific triggers.
  • Coordinates forwarding of cases involving clinical issues to the Clinical Specialty Reviewer when needed.
  • Provides practitioner education on FPPE/OPPE process to credentialed providers during on-boarding.
  • Collaborates well with department medical chairs, risk managers, claims department, quality partners, hospital and physician practice leaders in the line of work.
  • Consults as needed in review decisions with the Clinical Specialty Reviewer, the Committee for Professional Enhancement Chair, and the Vice President of Medical Affairs.
  • Identifies patterns of provider learning needs and recommends CME topics to address them.
  • Makes suggestions to the Vice President of Medical Affairs for cases that have received Professional Practice Review that would be of value to share the lessons learned.
  • Participates in peer reviews, chart reviews, staff education, clinical guideline development, and other continuing education and quality assurance activities to demonstrate compliance with standards, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.
  • Pursues professional growth and development.
  • Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization. May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree Health Science, Medical Science, Nursing, Physician Assistant, or related field
  • Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Licensed or Physician Assistant Licensed Certified Physician Assistants (CCPA) in the State of Florida
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS)
  • 3 years Relevant clinical experience or clinical leadership experience
