THE JOB:

The Lost and Found Clerk is responsible for managing and organizing the intake, storage, and retrieval of lost items. This role involves ensuring accurate record-keeping, assisting individuals in locating their lost belongings, and maintaining a high standard of customer service. The clerk will also coordinate with other departments to return items to their rightful owners and follow procedures to handle unclaimed property.

STARTING PAY: $15.00/HOUR

SCHEDULE: 10:00pm-6:45am

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Receiving Lost Items: Log and tag lost items as they are found or turned in, ensuring accurate documentation of the date, time, and location.
  • Item Cataloging: Maintain a detailed inventory of all items received using the department's tracking system (e.g., database, spreadsheets), ensuring all items are labeled and stored systematically.
  • Customer Assistance: Provide excellent customer service by helping individuals who come to claim their lost items. Verify ownership by cross-referencing detailed descriptions or requiring proof.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly reports of lost and found items and those claimed or disposed of according to company policy.
  • Item Return Coordination: Work with various departments or external organizations (e.g., local authorities, transportation services) to facilitate the return of valuable or important items.
  • Unclaimed Property Handling: Manage the disposition of unclaimed items in accordance with organizational policies, which may include donation, sale, or disposal.
  • Security and Confidentiality: Ensure the secure handling of sensitive or high-value items and protect customer privacy by adhering to established protocols.
  • Compliance and Safety: Follow all organizational policies regarding lost and found procedures, ensuring compliance with safety and legal requirements.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • At least 6 months Customer Service Experience
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Customer service oriented
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
  • Strong attention to detail.
