Position Overview

The MEP Project Director has the responsibility for providing the overall technical expertise and leadership in the planning, design, implementation, and support of conventional building systems, including but not limited to HVAC systems, hydronic systems, domestic water systems, power distribution, lighting, storm/sanitary piping, and emergency power systems. In this role, the MEP Project Director will be responsible for providing technical expertise, day-to-day support, scheduling, and coordination for the project delivery team.

The MEP Project Director must have strong technical knowledge, as well as construction management and coordination skills. The MEP Project Director will need a vast working knowledge of the project delivery process including planning, design, construction and commissioning, and qualification. This position will work with Project/Construction Managers, partner firms, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, C&Q, and owner representatives to design, deliver, and start up new facilities and systems. In addition to construction management, the MEP Project Director must be comfortable identifying, documenting, tracking, and resolving construction quality issues and deficiencies.

Key Objectives

  • Lead groups of people, including subcontractors, vendors, and peers throughout the delivery of a project. This could include providing direction, schedule, and oversight of other's deliverables and work.
  • Understanding design as it relates to functionality, constructability, sequencing, and maintainability. They must be comfortable reviewing design drawings and specifications and provide timely feedback to the design team.
  • Work with clients, contractors, and vendors to ensure successful project execution. The candidate should be capable of overseeing the implementation of design at the job site, identifying, and communicating issues, and facilitating their resolution.
  • Create and organize documentation to meet project requirements. This includes the creation and assembly of turnover/closeout packages. The candidate must be able to effectively document, track, and drive the resolution of issues identified during construction.
  • Leading, coordinating, and participating in equipment and systems start-up. In this role, they must be knowledgeable of safety aspects as well as technical prerequisites to start-up.
  • Work with project managers, construction managers, and subcontractors to effectively plan, schedule, and sequence work. The MEP Manager will also be expected to update schedules and provide lookaheads as work progresses to accurately reflect conditions in the field.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in Engineering- Mechanical/Electrical or Construction Management, or 10 years equivalent experience in Mechanical/Electrical/Project Management Disciplines is required
  • Minimum of seven (7) years experience working in construction management, engineering, or facility management/operations is required
  • Strong technical knowledge and skills in MEP equipment and systems. Experience in hygienic systems and processes
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Effective meeting management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with little day-to-day direction.
  • Ability to work with a technical mindset in both design and construction.
  • Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint capable
  • Technical background in industry/military preferred
