ODL is looking for creative engineers that are skilled at taking new concepts and technology and applying them to create new products within the building industry. Although very successful in providing door-glass (windows in entry doors) and Doors, ODL is seeking to expand it's reach into new markets and new areas. Key skills:

Drive to understand new technology and how things work coupled with the ability to apply them to products that solve a consumer need.

  • Broad understanding of Engineering principles (Mechanical focus, but desire basic understanding of materials, electrical and optical areas)
  • Strong desire to learn and explore new areas.
  • Ability to discern potential short term solutions from longer research needs
  • Communication skills to share learnings and experience with others in the organization
Passion for product development and strong testing background
  • Demonstrated track record of bringing new products to market.
  • Development of testing plans for concepts where no predetermined plan exists.
  • Anticipation of consumer use and potential abuse
  • Development of DFMEA, DVP&R's, Test Plans, Cost Estimates, Prototypes, etc.
  • Experience working within a stage gate process.
Flexible thinker with passion to get things right
  • A keen understanding of the ups and downs of R&D - knowing there is benefit in putting something on the shelf until other factors align, yet a drive to push through issues that can be solved with other alternatives.
  • Attention to detail ensuring products delivered to our customer satisfy their wants and needs.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at various stages of development.
  • "Can do" attitude that contributes to an inspired team culture where getting it done is more important that who did it.
  • Passion for learning and pushing for what could be rather than what already is.
Other Requirements:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field AND 8 or more years of hands on new product experience.
  • 5 plus years of experience with design and manufacture of injection molded products preferred.
  • Hands-on glass or building products experience a plus.
  • Project and Time Management - Comfortable in a fast paced environment with competing priorities. Able to manage multiple projects at various stages of the development cycle simultaneously.
  • Engineering Quality -Practical experience with DOE, DFMEA and capability studies. Is able to apply knowledge gained to improve E&D design standards and processes.
  • Basic electronic knowledge with prototyping using Arduinos and simple coding a plus.
