Our Personal Lines Underwriting team is currently seeking an Underwriter Trainee in our Worcester, MA location. This is a full-time, non-exempt role. POSITION OVERVIEW: This role is a trainee role for PL Underwriting. Responsibilities include: answering internal and external customer inquiries, processing policy requests, researching and performing multiple tasks for various states and lines of business, while achieving service goals. May have responsibility for making some basic underwriting decisions and applying insurance rules and regulations in accordance with assigned guidelines and authority levels. As skills and competencies are demonstrated, this person may participate on various project teams. IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL: Accurately quotes, issues and endorses policies (including bookrolls, renewals and endorsements). Researches customer inquiries (including rate variances and system reports). Provides assistance to agents, other departments and colleagues in a subject matter capacity. Supports and maintains work migration- internal and external to Hanover. Processes policy transactions as needed in support of the underwriting function. Evaluates claim referrals based on underwriting authority. Identifies and escalates risk assessments. Orders and evaluates reports pertinent to underwriting decisions within underwriting authority (coring underwriting activities). WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY: College degree preferred; or demonstrated 2-3 years success in a service related industry. Insurance knowledge is a plus. Proficiency in using computer applications, including MS Office and internet research. Confident in communicating verbally as well as written. Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Highly detail oriented. Strategic thinking- Integrates and balances big-picture concerns with day-to-day activities.
