A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PRE-BIRTH TO FIVE HEAD START DIRECTOR
As a Pre-Birth to Five Head Start Director, you play a vital role in our non-profit organization. Through your diligent oversight, you ensure that our program runs at peak efficiency, which ultimately means that the children at each of our locations are well instructed and lovingly cared for. In this position, you spend a good portion of your time performing supervisory duties. You oversee the specialists, coach, and employees for our Pre-Birth to Five program, which includes interviewing, hiring, appraising their performance, and resolving any concerns. Using staff meetings, on-site visits, and other methods, you provide essential feedback to the employees at each location.
In addition, you perform a variety of administrative duties. Knowing that compliance is essential, you keep current on regulations and ensure that we meet the standards with exactness. Attentive to detail, you oversee the budget, approve expenditures, analyze reports, and write grants. You also attend key association meetings and implement what you learn into our program.
Whenever possible, you seize the opportunity to perform outreach, collaborating with the school districts and maintaining positive relationships within the community. Occasionally, you confer with parents as well. Your goal is to let everyone know that we are here to help them and their children thrive. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A PRE-BIRTH TO FIVE HEAD START DIRECTOR
- Bachelor's degree in administration, child development, business, or a related field
- 4+ years of experience in early childhood education
- Experience managing a budget
- 2+ years of experience in a supervisory capacity
- Ability to write grants, reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals
- Basic math skills
- Valid driver's license
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. This non-profit child development position works a full-time schedule of 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday. Some travel is involved.
