The Network Systems Engineer’s role is to perform the design, planning, installation, support, and maintenance of various County-wide network and infrastructure hardware and software systems. The position responds to infrastructure service outages or coordinates resources related to the response for issues related to the services or technology in the position’s scope of control. This can only be accomplished by developing strong relationships with other members of the 911 Center, the County Information Systems (IS) Department, vendors, and the customers of the services. With a strong emphasis on customer service, this expert-level position contributes to the 911 Center team by demonstrating a variety of advanced technical skills, resource management, accountability, and sound problem solving, which are applied to mitigating, diagnosing, and resolving service and system issues quickly and correctly. This position contributes to the success of the 911 Center by supporting the designing and implementing various service delivery and capacity management processes to support the end-user and customer services. With minimal supervision and considerable independence and initiative this position is expected provide timely resolution of support issues by partnering with other members of the 911 Center, IS team, vendors, users, and/or customers through diplomatic and positive communications. Typical activities for this position could include design, implementation, and administration of infrastructure systems such as virtualized server hosts, server-class hardware, network storage devices, network infrastructure devices (switches, routers, and access points), data backup services, Software as a Service application management, server operating systems, email systems, and phone systems. This position will be responsible for leading all aspects of the network security administration. To be successful in this position, an individual should have considerable experience with a variety of network infrastructure technologies and tools; and the ability to problem solve independently and in a group. This position requires proficient written and verbal communication skills to effectively build partnership relationships with team members and customers. BA / BS degree in computer science, information systems, or related field. 6 or more years experience in installation and maintenance of network servers, operating systems, and network infrastructure technologies OR an equivalent combination of education and experience Strong working knowledge and experience with virtualization is expected. Advanced Systems Administration or Network Administration certifications are preferred. Understanding of ITIL or IT Service Management best practices is preferred. Must be able to pass a background check.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:

Valid Colorado Driver's License at time of appointment and throughout employment. Advanced Systems Administration or Network Administration certifications are expected. ITIL Foundations certification preferred.
