What will you do? Your key responsibilities as a Specialist at BHP Ventures will include: Gaining fluency in, and meaningful exposure to, key mining industry concepts and cutting-edge technologies of strategic relevance to BHP, as well as developing relationships within the investing ecosystem that enable you to identify, assess and access attractive investment opportunities. Undertaking independent market analysis to develop new and existing investment theses, identifying market trends and specific opportunities across multiple verticals, to guide our investment strategy towards maximizing both financial and strategic returns to BHP. Assisting with qualifying, screening, prioritizing, establishing relationships with, and tracking a high volume of prospective investments to develop our pipeline of new opportunities for BHP. Assisting with end-to-end due diligence activities including market and competitive research, financial/valuation analysis and modeling, commercial due diligence, obtaining venture and founding team references from customers and other investors, authoring investment memoranda, and presenting investment recommendations to our Executive Leadership Committee. Assisting investment team leaders with managing the investment processes from start to finish, including coordinating with prospective investment companies’ management teams, internal BHP business units, legal and finance teams, deal structuring and negotiation strategies, and ensuring transaction timelines and milestones are met. Engaging our portfolio companies and developing relationships with key external and internal stakeholders to activate strategic collaboration with BHP. Synthesizing insights from your market engagement and end-to-end investment activities to drive additional revenue and savings across BHP. About the Role We are seeking a Specialist to join our investment team within BHP Ventures. As a Specialist you will be an important member of our global team, helping drive deal flow and portfolio management in order to create strategic, financial and insight returns for the enterprise. You will be responsible for assisting the delivery of our Ventures program with tasks such as deal sourcing and due diligence, post-execution deal management, and identifying opportunities to drive portfolio company value. About You You will have successfully completed a relevant undergraduate degree, and a broadening post graduate MBA (or equivalent) will be viewed favorably. Candidates should understand risk and how to price it, and be familiar with investment processes, transaction documents, and key investment terms. Operational experience within the resources sector would be advantageous, but not essential. You must be a fast learner, a careful listener, curious about everything, and able to quickly assess a range of technologies. You will be tasked with multiple investment processes and internal projects concurrently, and the ability to prioritize these demands on your time will be paramount. You must be comfortable and thrive in a fast-paced and unstructured working environment, which means you have a strong bias for action and impeccable attention to detail. You’ll need to take initiative and be resourceful.
