We offer competitive pay and excellent benefits including medical, vision, disability, life insurance plans, a generous retirement plan, HRA, Flex Spending Account, staff discount for dental treatment, wellness programs, and much moreThe primary function of the Orthodontic Assistant is to provide support to the Orthodontist in his/her treatment of patients and the orthodontic assistant team; ensuring efficient and compassionate delivery of dental care while maintaining a clean and organized work space.The ideal candidate will have the following, although not required;Previous clinical experience;Knowledge and understanding of orthodontic dental procedures, terminology, and techniques;Ability to perform expanded dental protocols and procedures.Responsibilities:Sets up and prepare for procedures, laying out appropriate materials; taking & developing x-rays as needed; reviews and completes patient charts; enters charges on the QDW system.Assesses dental condition and needs of patient; uses patient screening procedures, to include medical history review, dental charting, and charge entries.Delivers direct patient care to patients as assigned either with the Orthodontist or at the direction of the Orthodontist, using established dental procedures; performs routine treatment procedures, including x-rays, taking impressions, pouring models, and related procedures.Documents dental history or chief complaint; records and reports pertinent observations and patient reactions to dental staff, as appropriate; documents lab procedures and ensures follow up on results;Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment of patients.Greets and seats patient, establishing rapport and putting the patient at ease. Dismisses patient following treatment.Maintains a professional appearance that is appropriate for her/his position and work environment.Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.Minimum Job Requirements:Must exhibit good eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity for safety or patients during Orthodontic procedures.Must register with the Office of Professional Regulations within 30 days of hire; current CPR Certification; obtain X-ray certification after 6 months of employment; High school diploma.Working Conditions and Physical Effort:Work is performed in an interior medical/clinical environment. Moderate physical activity including: Handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds; Standing and/or walking between appointments, to lab work, to x-ray room, to front desk, etc. Periods of sitting on a stool for varying lengths of time, some prolonged periods; Reaching in front, both arms; ability to hold suction in place when necessary; Fine motor dexterity required to handle and pass sharp instruments, complete lab work and enter computer information. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety (OSHA) precautions. Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.Additional notesSalary is based on experience and qualifications.
