Role: The VP Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management is responsible for the leadership, innovation, governance, and management necessary to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor all aspects of compliance and risk within the Credit Union. Reporting directly to the General Counsel & Chief Risk Officer, the VP of Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management plays a crucial role in ensuring the Credit Union operates within legal and regulatory frameworks while effectively managing and mitigating risks. Establishes and oversees the Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management Programs, including, Compliance, BSA Compliance, Enterprise Risk, Vendor Management, Policy Management, Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery, and Corporate Insurance. Leads and develops employee teams for all areas of responsibility ensuring performance alignment with business objectives; provides timely awareness to management and Board of organizational risk and provides recommendations for appropriately addressing and mitigating risk issues.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements comprehensive compliance and risk management strategies aligned with regulatory requirements and the credit union's strategic objectives. Collaborate with Senior Management and department heads to integrate risk management considerations into strategic decision making. Prepares and presents compliance and risk management reports to Executive Leadership and Regulatory Authorities as required. Provides a quarterly Risk Management progress report to the Board Executive Committee members.
  • Conducts regular risk assessments and compliance reviews to identify potential risks and ensure compliance with internal policies and external laws and regulations. Oversees the business continuity planning and disaster recovery (BCP/DR) architecture is in place and ensures recurrent update processes for the BCP/DR plan. Designs and enforces compliance policies, procedures, and controls to mitigate risk and promotes a culture of compliance throughout the Credit Union. Oversees investigations of compliance issues, breaches, or complaints and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Manages all functions related to the credit union's Enterprise Risk Management, Vendor/Policy Management, Compliance Risk Management, BSA Compliance, and Corporate Insurance functions ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Leads and manages the Compliance and Risk Management Team, providing guidance, mentoring and performance feedback.
  • Chairs and provides key input into the company's Risk Management Committee. Monitors change in regulatory requirements and industry best practices, and updates policies and procedures accordingly. Stays abreast of emerging trends and technologies in compliance and risk management to enhance organizational effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
Experience: Eight or more years of relevant experience in compliance and enterprise risk management within the financial services industry, with a deep understanding of regulatory requirements. Three or more years of employee management experience is required.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Law or in a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education is required. An advanced degree is preferred. Professional certifications, such as CRCM (Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager) or CRM (Certified Risk Manager) are preferred.

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft and Google Workspace.
  • Sound judgment and decision making ability.
