The Staff Pharmacist is assigned to the pharmacy area and is primarily responsible for all drug distribution and control activities from that area. The Staff Pharmacist evaluates, processes, and monitors physician orders for patient medications and other pharmaceutical supplies, serves as a reliable source of drug information, maintains computer records and patient profiles, assists in drug inventory maintenance, assists in quality improvement activities, and directs Pharmacy Technicians in their daily activities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Drug Distribution and Control: Interprets and processes patient medication orders accuracy and efficiently. Maintains appropriate and accurate dispensing records including: computer medication profiles, investigational drugs and controlled substances. Uses knowledge of aseptically techniques/ processes and aseptically prepares intravenous medications, and supervises aseptic preparation of IV medications by technicians. Monitors protocol compliance for all patients by assuring appropriate protocol enrollment, and dosing and scheduling accuracy. Documents significant protocol deviations and variances and all other significant interventions in the provision of patient care. Directs technicians in the preparation of medications, insuring accuracy, efficiency and timeliness. Assures that medications are delivered to appropriate patient care areas for administration to patients in a timely manner.
  • Clinical and Professional Service: Provides drug information as necessary and upon request based upon an assessment of individual orders and patient conditions to optimize that patient's care. The drug information provided must be accurate and should be documented in the pharmacy information system. Unresolved issues are appropriately communicated. Is able to provide medication for all prescriptions. Participates in Harvey Teams and drills as assigned. Actively contributes to departmental quality improvement efforts and drug utilization evaluation programs as assigned. Contributes to staff development programs and inservices. Presents at least one inservice per year. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of new therapeutics and drug delivery technology.
  • Research Program Support: Actively contributes to ongoing departmental and institutional research programs. Provides and insures optimal drug distribution services for protocol patients. Offers suggestions for improvements in drug delivery policies and procedures to insure optimal patient care. Assists in drug, device, or technology evaluation programs.
  • Departmental and Institutional Responsibilities: Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department. Serves on selected departmental and institutional committees.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council of Pharmacy Education and eligible for pharmacy licensure in Tennessee

Minimum Experience:

  • Hospital pharmacy practice experience or a Doctor of Pharmacy degree is highly desirable

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:

  • Licensure by the Tennessee State Board of Pharmacy

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:

  • None

Position for Outpatient Pharmacy 60% FTE; weekday and weekend ( current every 4th to 5th weekend rotation)

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $50.00 - $89.50 per hour for the role of Clinical Staff Pharmacist-Non Exempt.
