Position Overview:

Navistars Custom Engineering team has an opening for a Mechanical Engineer. You will be responsible for delivering complete engineered packages that meets the needs of our customers.

Custom engineering works with sales, dealers, and customers to engineer special features into their vehicles so they are ready to go to work for the end customer. Engineers deal with every area of the truck from the front bumper to the rear taillights, and everything in between. This is a fast-paced environment as our customers need extremely quick turnaround times on their orders.

Every Custom Engineer starts out by going through a thorough a training program where they learn to navigate the critical design systems of Navistar Engineering. After the formal training the engineer enters a continuous mentoring process to learn more deeply all Navistar products and the systems that comprise each truck. This mentoring process is a journey over years of exposure to new and challenging projects that develop engineers into great Truck Engineers.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop solutions to complex problems while maintaining the integrity of the product
  • Perform packaging studies to meet vehicle integration requirements
  • Implement engineering changes by releasing new designs to production using CAD tools and creating Bills of Materials for large assemblies
  • Review designs for completeness and accuracy
  • Support all stages of projects lifecycle
  • Interact effectively across the organization: customers, application engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and other product development groups
  • Refer problems that cannot be resolved to the next level
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
  • At least 2 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience

OR

  • Masters degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
Additional Requirements:
  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
Desired Skills:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering- highly preferred
  • Experience in truck and/or automotive design and development process
  • Experience in release process of design and engineering changes for parts, assemblies, BOMs
  • Experience in NX 3D modeling software
  • Experience in 2D drafting
  • Knowledge of GD&T and Tolerance Stack-Up Analysis
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Experience in MS Office including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
