The Director of Information Technology is an innovative, creative, and dynamic leader charged with developing and implementing a strategic vision in all areas of technology for the School. In addition to overseeing and managing the School’s technology hardware, software, and budget, the Director implements best practices involving digital tools and technology integration into daily practical classroom use. As both a generator of big ideas and a hands-on implementer, the Director engages with administrators, staff, educators, and students to extend the responsible and creative use of technology. The Director must be a strategic thinker with strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, while also operating as a dynamic leader with the credibility to create and sustain momentum in the School’s appropriate use of technology in its curriculum and instruction. An understanding of the culture of independent school education is deeply valued. Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Technology is a member of the Senior Administrative Team and works with the School’s leadership to define, develop, shape, and prioritize the School’s academic technology program. The ideal candidate finds joy in working with children, adults, and in school life; is kind and patient, and possesses a healthy sense of humor; shows an appreciation for the craft of teaching, along with a passion for and knowledge of K-12 Academic Technology; is committed to leading and supporting teachers’ ongoing professional development; possesses or shows promise of successful leadership experience and has led the development and implementation of innovative program design; possesses an organized, hands-on leadership style that can delegate with confidence; demonstrates strong knowledge and understanding of technology operations and educational integration necessary at an independent school; is well-versed in instructional technology hardware, software, and related web-based tools, information technology, systems management, and network development and management; demonstrates success working with faculty in all disciplines to identify instructional needs to enable/enhance student learning, and the ability to apply information technology in solving business problems; has a strong understanding of relational databases and client-server concepts. Responsibilities: Provides institutional leadership in supervising both the Information Technology staff and Academic Technology staff to ensure current and potential curricular technology implementations can be supported and maintained by the IT infrastructure and support model. Oversees departmental budgets and resources as well as the evaluation, selection, and implementation of instructional technology hardware, software, and learning tools. Manages infrastructure and academic hardware/software purchases, as well as colleagues’ professional development in conjunction with the Business Manager. Demonstrates and models instructional practices that utilize technology effectively to inspire innovative curriculum and teaching. Communicates with parents, employees, administrators, and outside organizations for the purpose of providing administrative support, enhancing program awareness, and assisting with program implementation and conflict resolution. Collaborates and coordinates the design, planning, support, professional development, and implementation of technology use in teaching, learning, and school curriculum for the purpose of improving student learning in all subject areas. Leads the development and interpretation of IT program policy and procedures to establish guidelines needed to effectively and efficiently meet the School’s program goals while adhering to all relevant regulations and guidelines. Bachelor’s Degree and/or experience in Information Technology, Educational Technology, or Computer Science required; Master’s degree preferred At least five years of teaching experience with an advanced degree in Educational Technology or equivalent experience 3-5+ years of experience leading a K-12 school IT department or department in tech-related field Experience with Google Admin Console and Google Apps for Education Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills with equally strong presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels in the organization Strong working technical knowledge and experience with maintenance, administration and implementation of multiple operating system and server platforms Familiarity with applicable laws and regulations as they relate to information and tech issues Effective negotiation and vendor management skills Strong supervisory, organizational, technical, and analytical skills Ability to coach, develop and mentor staff Willingness to be very hands-on in the day-to-day operations of the technology department This position requires occasional lifting of objects up to 30lbs
