They embody the concept of the scholarly practitioner, staying current with research and best practices in course design and teaching methods and maintaining a personal agenda of scholarly inquiry related to teaching effectiveness. Highly conversant with the affordances of digital course modalities, they guide faculty in effectively leveraging technology to enhance student engagement and learning. The Director of Teaching Programs serves as a role model for strategic teaching effectiveness across modalities, helping to foster a data-driven culture that positions teaching effectiveness as a tool to improve student outcomes and graduation rates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides oversight for the design, coordination, and assessment of multiple faculty professional development offerings and associated resources including foundational course design/teaching credentialing, engagement opportunities for growth in teaching across all course modalities, and other offerings to support holistic faculty career progression

Champions the strategic role of teaching in collaboration with key institutional partners within the mission of the university and, particularly, as a crucial component in positively affecting student success and learning

Serves as a member of the Delphi Center Leadership Team, working closely with other Delphi Center directors to achieve strategic goals of the Division, fostering particular synergies with the Evidence-driven Inquiry and Impact (EdII) and Instructional Design & Technology (IDT) teams

Initiates proposed new programs (or changes to/elimination of existing programs) as a change agent, supported with logic and evidence, in collaboration with others, to more effectively and strategically advance teaching excellence in support of student success

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field

or

an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Education and/or experience equivalent to 10 years that includes roles in faculty professional development, instructional design, and/or teaching in higher education

Documented experience supervising others in a higher education setting

Evidence of significant engagement with the broad higher education community of educational development and/or online/digital teaching and learning

Documented experience teaching in multiple course modalities, including face-to-face, blended, and online courses

Consistent record of collaborating effectively toward achievement of common goals beyond traditional positional authority structures

Demonstrated ability to inspire others toward excellence in digital course design and teaching

The Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning:

The Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning seeks candidates who value teamwork, customer service and excellence. As a teaching and learning center, the Delphi Center provides direct feedback on a regular basis to all employees through the lens of a growth mindset. The Delphi Center is driven by data, sound processes, and excellence, and is always seeking and giving feedback on one another’s work.

The Delphi Center is committed to creating equitable and inclusive campus environments that accelerate the success of the full range of UofL’s students and employees. We believe that employees who feel valued and respected will create policies, programs, practices, research agendas, and services to effectively meet the needs and exceed the expectations of the increasingly diverse student populations we hope to admit and serve. The Delphi Center seeks candidates who have a demonstrated capacity to create inclusive work environments, can work effectively among increasingly diverse teams, and will serve the increasingly diverse student population UofL wants to attract and admit.
