Job Description:

GoldenWolf is seeking an experienced Fire Protection Engineer, PE to provide full-time, on-site support as part of the Defense Health Agency Headquarters' Engineering Operations team in San Antonio, TX. This role will involve planning, directing, and coordinating fire protection system projects while ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and coordination to the Engineering Infrastructure team for all fire protection system-related matters in support of the MHS mission.
  • Use a broad range of CAD/BIM and other software to develop plans, specifications, hydraulic calculations, material lists, and other documentation for DHA/FE and DHA/FOB projects to meet state, local, and federal codes, AHJ requirements, Joint Commission, and DoD standards.
  • Conduct building fire protection, code, and life-safety evaluations and prepare/present technical reports and presentations.
  • Perform functional testing and commissioning for government acceptance of systems through point-by-point verification of design, installation, functionality, and performance of fire protection equipment and systems.
  • Coordinate with project managers to support facility modifications and projects to ensure scope and specification compliance.
  • Evaluate proposed projects and technical solutions for need, code compliance, effectiveness, and life cycle cost.
  • Answer technical Requests for Information (RFIs) in accordance with codes, regulations, and DHA policy and procedures.
  • Travel to sites for detailed inspections of existing equipment conditions, evaluate maintenance procedures, and confirm proper operational practices.
  • Provide comprehensive travel reports detailing observations, findings, and recommendations in a technical yet accessible manner for non-engineers.
Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Fire Protection Engineering.
  • Minimum of five (5) years demonstrated practical experience in the healthcare field. Practical experience is defined has having the direct responsibility for execution of design, maintenance, or major repair of fire protection systems supporting institutional, industrial, or medical healthcare campuses.
  • This practical experience must be recent, within the past six (6) months and span over the preceding three (3) out of four (4) years. The expectation of this position is to possess the expertise and experience to resolve complex problems that his/her contemporaries cannot resolve.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Expert level skills and extensive practical experience in all aspects of fire protection systems necessary to accurately design, analyze, and manage those systems.
  • Knowledgeable of local, municipal, and federal building codes, criteria, and standards.
  • Have strong interpersonal, communicative, diplomatic, and analytical skills to provide highly professional, technically sound fire protection engineering strategies to project stakeholders.
  • Current Registered Professional Engineering License in the field of Fire Protection.
  • Proven expertise in the use of computer aided design software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or Revit.
