Responsibilities and Qualification

  • Assists Adult Collection Development Coordinator with collection development duties and assignments.
  • Compiles and prepares collection development selection lists from review journals and sources.
  • Creates Adult Collection Development team documents, including team surveys.
  • Creates orders for New York Time best-sellers, including new titles and additional copies, as needed, to cover patron hold requests.
  • Processes Holds Purchase Alerts for the Adult Collection Development Coordinator and the Youth Services Coordinator.
  • Maintains the Standing Order spreadsheets ensuring accuracy.
  • Creates orders for Standing Order materials, including, but not limited to Author Standing Order, Large Print Standing Order, and Continuations.
  • Uses vendors databases, Polaris ILS, and EDI to electronically order books.
  • Manages the Professional book collection, checking-in/out materials for staff, managing holds, and maintaining the collection.
  • Attends monthly Adult Collection Development meetings, presenting as needed, and recording minutes and sharing with the Adult Collection team.
  • Provides support to Adult Services staff with technical issues with selection lists or team documents.
  • Maintains book club reservations for Fort Bend County Libraries' staff and community book clubs using Microsoft Access.
  • Provides Reader's Advisory for book club groups.
  • Keeps statistics for book club requests and board game/puzzle requests.
  • Organizes materials for Book Club Selection Committee and compiles feedback.
  • Maintains book club collection, recommending copies to be replaced or weeded.
  • Manages board game & puzzles reservations using Microsoft Access.
  • Recommends board games & puzzles to be added to the collection by tracking branch feedback and staying up to date with new games and game trends.
  • Charges/Discharges library materials using Polaris ILS for specific library collections.
  • Maintains patron records; follow Patron Confidentiality Policy.
  • Serves as coverage for the Administration Reception Desk as needed.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, Staff Development Day, committee meetings and training sessions.
  • May perform one or more of the following: Orders Supplies; Processes books and/or AV items; Orders and receives library materials/checks invoices; Creates records, changes holdings using an automated system; Performs database maintenance.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma/GED. Some college preferred.
  • 2 years job related experience is required.
  • Good verbal and written communication including interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public and other employees. Ability to work well with a diverse public and staff.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner. Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to learn library software applications; experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Ability to interpret policy and problem-solve.


SALARY RANGE: $15.00 - $17.89 per hour based on qualifications
