With cutting-edge die cutting and laser-based manufacturing capabilities, Preco is a top contract manufacturing service provider in North America. Role Description Preco, LLC is seeking a Material Science Engineer for our Applications Engineering department.The Applications Engineering department supports the sales, engineering, equipment, manufacturing, production, and quality groups within the organization. The successful candidate will focus on laser processes to enhance profitability, efficiency, productivity, and sales volume, thereby helping Preco exceed customer expectations. This role requires a strong background in material science, specifically metals, and ideally laser technology.Expertise in heat treating, laser hardening, localized heat treating, laser heat treating, surface hardening, annealing, tempering, metal deposition, precision hardening, etc. is also required. Primary Responsibilities: Provides leadership: · Organizes and assists with completing process development demonstrations, complex test studies and research using Design of Experiments (DOE) concepts. · Determines feasibility of new and/or difficult applications. · Regularly analyzes services provided for customers to develop new ways to better satisfy customer needs (new/different equipment and processes, alternative work methods, improved quality/service, etc.) · Assists Manufacturing Engineering and Quality in writing technical, quality and production procedures for the CMS division. · Leads the process development and execution of system FAT’s for the LED division. · Participates in system design reviews. · Assist in selecting and managing key, long-term development projects in targeted markets. · Assist in guiding corporate business activities. · Writes or assists in writing test reports, white papers, leading webinars, and giving talks at trade shows. Provides technical support services: · Assist sales with accurate quotations/estimates and proposals. · Work with customers on new/difficult applications. · Provides technical support by visiting customers at their facilities · Provide technical reports/publications for advertising. · Recommend solutions to processing problems. · Develop new ways to satisfy customer needs. · Support and improve existing laser processes. · Work trade shows and visit customer facilities. Hiring Qualifications: · Four-year metallurgy or engineering degree minimum. · 5 to 10 years of industrial experience in heat treating, welding and/or additive manufacturing · Experience using lasers. · Excellent interpersonal, leadership, written communication, and computer skills. · Proficient in laser processing equipment and methods, CNC programming, and dimensional tolerancing. · Ability to create/analyze blueprints, specifications, and purchase agreements/orders. · Must fit in with the company culture by working amicably with both sales and engineering teams. · Willingness to travel.
