Head Custodian

POSITION: Head Custodian (Elementary / District Service Center) EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt NUMBER OF DAYS: 250 PAY GRADE: Aux PG-3 DIVISION: School Plant Services DEPARTMENT: Custodial Services REPORTS TO: Principal/Zone Trainer/Custodian Supervisor EDUCATION: None EXPERIENCE: One year as a custodian Position Function/Purpose Daily supervision of all assigned Custodial Staff to assure all Custodians follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds. Major Responsibilities Manage and direct the work of the custodian staff on the assigned worksite. Keep the building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean. Guard against fire and accident hazards. Keep operation costs to a minimum without reducing efficiency. Help to prevent property loss that may be caused by abuse. Keep all tools and equipment in unserviceable condition; practice and pursue preventive maintenance. Keep floors clean, waxed, buffed, vacuumed, or extracted. Schedule and execute all normal housekeeping operations. Replace light bulbs and tubes. Report maintenance through proper channels. Be responsible for the security of buildings. Set and move irrigation pipe and sprinklers on campus grounds as assigned. Keep the supervisor and principal informed of all developments that affect custodial services. Perform such other duties as assigned by Custodial Supervisor or Custodial Trainer. Qualification Requirements The ability to read and write English. Ability to properly operate cleaning equipment. Lift heavy equipment. Proper use of cleaning supplies. Operate all custodial equipment. Valid Texas Driver License and acceptable driving record; must adhere to Midland ISD’s vehicle safety and use program. Pass all training courses.
