Overview:

HP's Consumer Solutions and Services organization is building the next generation of digital touchpoints for HP's customers. We are looking for an Engineering Program Manager to drive engineering excellence and other developer productivity initiatives across a software engineering organization. Reporting directly to the Director of Software Engineering, this role requires a technologist with strong collaborative and program management skills to ensure the successful delivery of engineering initiatives across the organization. The ideal candidate will take a holistic view of the entire software organization and work with the software engineering managers to introduce engineering best practices while continuous improvements based on metrics, to help ensure schedule and quality consistency in software delivery.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Execution - Collaborate with the software engineering leadership to develop engineering best practices that align with the organization's goals. Drive the execution of these best practices to ensure they are adopted and followed across all software development teams.

Process Improvement - Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency and productivity. Standardize processes and practices across the organization to ensure consistency and quality.

Performance Tracking - Monitor and evaluate the performance of software in the field, tracking key metrics such as defect rates and user feedback. Provide regular updates to the Director of Software Engineering and other senior leaders on software developer productivity metrics.

Infrastructure Management - Ensure that the necessary infrastructure are in place and running efficiently and effectively.

Vendor Management - Manage relationships with vendors that supply contract labor to the organization.

Quality Testing Support - Ensure that quality testing teams have the right hardware and resources to effectively perform their tasks.

Stakeholder Engagement - Serve as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding engineering programs and initiatives. Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure their needs and expectations are met.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or program management role.
Skills:
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to drive engineering best practices and process improvements.
  • Experience with Agile and other software development methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and programs simultaneously.
  • Experience in managing contributions and relationships in a platform-based development environment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure and cloud services management.
  • Ability to support and manage hardware requirements for quality testing teams.
