The Bioinformatics Research Specialist will work as a data scientist/health informaticist/bioinformatician who will lead analyses of multi-dimensional clinical or genomic datasets with a strong focus on cancer research. The incumbent will work with the Bioinformatics leadership of the Cancer Center and in close collaboration with faculties at the Hillman Cancer Center to oversee their high throughput omics project design, data analysis, and data presentation. The incumbent will also be responsible for collaborative computational and informatics research projects involving methods development, novel algorithm development and/or in-depth data analysis that facilitates and integrates implementation, visualization, and database management of multi-dimensional clinical and biological datasets generated at the Cancer Center or from public cancer databases. Master's degree is required, PhD is preferred. Job Summary Supervises the research operations of study protocols and methods development and creates and directs a complex scheduling scheme involving large numbers of research participants and active protocols. Manages complex data management systems of multi-dimensional biological datasets and other project management staff oversight duties. Coordinates projects with multiple laboratories, ensures staff adherence to protocols, and provides data management support for researchers. Essential Functions Ability to operate PC and telephone system and to communicate with others both orally and in writing. Proficient in data analysis; ability to collaborate with computer scientists, programmers, physicians, and laboratory scientists in cancer research. Must have excellent writing and presentation skills. Physical Effort Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. Will be required to move from workstation to other locations within the department, university, and UPMC. Very little heavy lifting required for this position.
